I’ve recently come around to [name]Francesca[/name]. It’s feminine and lovely, but I’m not huge on the nickname [name]Fran[/name]/[name]Frankie[/name]. Does Cesca (chess-ka, I presume?) work, or is it a little pretentious? [name]Do[/name] you like [name]Francesca[/name] in general?
I think Cesca could definitely work. I like [name]Francesca[/name] a lot, but I can’t imagine using it, and it’s not exactly my style. I like the nn [name]Annie[/name] for it, personally.
I knew a little Franchesca and she went by her full name. It was gorgeous and just so right for her. Cesca could definitely work, but I would prefer the whole name.
I think it’s a beautiful name, and it was on our short list for our first pregnancy. We liked the nicknames Chessa, Chesca, and [name]Chase[/name], as well as [name]Frankie[/name]. However, I worried that if she got into the teen years and became rather busty, that Chesty would be her nickname.
Not sure. I think if someone saw the nickname on paper, they’d be pretty confused and not say it right. There’s also the nickname Chessie. I could easily see Cesca and Chessie mistaken for Jessica and Jessie though. I’m not a fan of nicknames myself, but the full Francesca is such a gorgeous name.
My second daughter (3 years old) is [name]Francesca[/name], so I am obviously partial to it. When I was in junior high, I read a book about a girl named [name]Francesca[/name] who was called [name]Kessa[/name], and that is what we use for her nickname. Some people also call her Cesca. I would say the vast majority if the time she is called [name]Francesca[/name], though.
I love francesca with [name]Frankie[/name], but not liking fran so much. I like Cesca but I think it will be pronounced Ses-kah, which in fact I like
even better.
Here are a few more [name]Franc[/name]- based nns:
[name]France[/name]
[name]Francie[/name]
[name]Fancie[/name]/[name]Fancy[/name]
[name]Fan[/name]
[name]Fanny[/name]
[name]Fanchon[/name] (French prn :Fah(n)choh(n))
I think [name]Francesca[/name] is pretty enough on it’s own. The only [name]Francesca[/name] I’ve ever known went by the nickname Frenchie. And she unfortunatly had a sister named [name]Paris[/name]…
I think [name]Francesca[/name] is really sexy. A hipster nn for her could be [name]Fannie[/name] (I also knew a [name]Francie[/name] growing up). I agree [name]Frankie[/name] is yuk.
[name]Francesca[/name] is gorgeous and sophisticated. I don’t see anything wrong with going by the full name.
Then again, I love nicknames, so if I had a [name]Francesca[/name], she’d get one eventually…
[name]Love[/name] your idea of Cesca, pronounced the way you are pronouncing it, (chess-kuh)
Another idea: I knew a girl named [name]Francesca[/name] who went by her nickname practically full time… Checka. It takes the sound of the -cesca ending and makes it cute and spunky! I always liked it!
I know a [name]Francesca[/name] who goes by Cheskie (not sure how she spells it, but this is how it sounds). I think it’s a cute nickname for a beautiful name.
Thanks everyone! While I do appreciate that [name]Francesca[/name] is a beautiful name which doesn’t really need a nickname, I know my family… she would definitely end up with one! I just wanted some reassurance that there are other options besides [name]Fran[/name]/[name]Frannie[/name]/[name]Frankie[/name]. And [name]Fannie[/name] wouldn’t really work in the UK, it’s a slang term for er… lady parts!
