Francis

I have a [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] and a [name_f]Leona[/name_f] [name_u]Marie[/name_u]. Now working on a potential boy name for the middle name [name_u]George[/name_u]. What do you think about [name_u]Francis[/name_u]? Would you call him [name_m]Frank[/name_m]? I like the name, but for some reason, I can’t picture a teen boy going by [name_u]Francis[/name_u] . . .

I like it! It seems classic but not often heard, similar to your other children’s names. I’d probably call him [name_u]Frankie[/name_u].

I do prefer [name_m]Franklin[/name_m], personally, but I get the impression that might feel a bit too trendy/hipsterish for you?

Francis seems excellent with your kids! It’s strong and familiar but underused. I really like it!

I probably wouldn’t nickname him, but [name_m]Frank[/name_m]/Frankie/Francie/Cisco could all work.

Francis [name_u]George[/name_u] would be lovely!
I can picture an adult [name_u]Francis[/name_u], it’s perfectly lovely for me!
[name_m]Frank[/name_m] is a nice nickname, though I prefer [name_u]Frankie[/name_u].

I actually know a [name_u]Francis[/name_u] who is maybe 13-15 years old (I don’t know exactly). He was my neighbor for a while. He came from a large Catholic family and went by [name_u]Francis[/name_u]. I think the name is definitely usable. I like [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] to make it more “youthful”, but you really don’t need a nickname if you don’t want one.

I love [name_u]Francis[/name_u] and it goes great with your other children’s names. I would not use a nickname though, and I think that [name_m]Frank[/name_m] has a very different vibe from [name_u]Francis[/name_u].

I love [name_u]Francis[/name_u]! [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite boys name, actually. [name_m]Frank[/name_m] and [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] are cute nicknames but I don’t think it necessarily needs one anyway. I think it works at any age.

Yes. I shy away from [name_m]Franklin[/name_m] a bit, maybe it does feel a little hipster to me? Not sure why, as it’s not a “new” name at all!

Good to know. I tend to steer clear of gender-neutral names, and, as a teacher, I’ve had a couple of girl students named [name_f]Frances[/name_f]. I feel like [name_m]Frank[/name_m] sounds more masculine than [name_u]Francis[/name_u]? But I agree with you that it could work. [name_m]Just[/name_m] hard for me to picture, maybe because I have never met one!

Yeah I think [name_f]Frances[/name_f] and [name_u]Francis[/name_u] might cause some issues. However, I do like [name_m]Frank[/name_m] if you think [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is too childish or might be seen as a girly nickname.

I like [name_u]Francis[/name_u] (more than [name_f]Frances[/name_f] I think?) I’d probably not nickname it but would use [name_m]Frank[/name_m] if it needed to be done.

I love [name_u]Francis[/name_u],I’ve always thought it’s a very underrated name. It’s my cousin’s name and it fits him really well, he’s now 28 and we’ve always call him [name_u]Francis[/name_u], don’t think it was weird when he was a teen

Oh thanks! I love it as well! Does he like it? Did he ever get picked on for it?

Francis is lovely! I do prefer [name_f]Frances[/name_f] for a girl but both are almost the same and lovely. If you want to use a nickname for him then you could use…

  • Frank

  • Frankie/Franky

  • Fran

  • Franz/Frans

  • Franco/Franko

  • Cee Cee

Good luck!

[name_u]Francis[/name_u] is charming! I think it fits the vibe of names like Charles. I think Frank or Frankie make fresh nicknames but they wouldn’t be necessary!

Francis is really handsome! I can totally see it on a teenager - he would be so cool.

Francis [name_u]George[/name_u] is a great name. I like [name_m]Frank[/name_m] a lot as a nn. He could go by [name_m]Frank[/name_m] or [name_u]Francis[/name_u] - why not leave it up to him?

He likes it as far as I know. He never got picked on for it at all! Got to say we are from Spain so name trends are different here, but [name_u]Francis[/name_u] is extremely uncommon here and I think people see it as a “cool” name

I really like it. I can picture a teen with the NN [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] and he will always have his full name [name_u]Francis[/name_u] to fall back on.
