I’ve heard people say that [name_f]Frederica[/name_f] is clunky. I myself don’t mind it much so because I can say it easily, but it does sound a bit heavier than most other names I like. What does everyone else think?
I think even [name_f]Federica[/name_f] already sounds a lot less clunky. That R makes all the difference.
No I think it sounds pretty you could go to [name_f]Fredrika[/name_f] if you want the name to sound more succinct but I don’t think its necessary.
Well, if the boy [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]/[name_m]Frederic[/name_m] is being used, why not [name_f]Frederica[/name_f]? I have to say I’m surprised to see this name in the forum though. It’s familiar but also unusual. I only “know” one person with this name in real life -the little sister of my friend and as far as I know she always use a nickname.
I like it, but then I generally like clunky names. I also like [name_f]Federica[/name_f] and especially [name_f]Fredrika[/name_f]. [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] would be a cute and unexpected nickname on a girl.
As a fan of the clunkers, I say it’s a good thing. Maybe it’s just my skewed taste, but [name_f]Frederica[/name_f] doesn’t strike me as even especially clunky (it’s not [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f] or [name_f]Edna[/name_f], for instance). Maybe it’s just the current trend of soft and fluid names?
My grandfather’s name is [name_m]Fred[/name_m], and I was consisdering naming our daughter [name_u]Freddie[/name_u]. I think Fredika is a super cute name with an adorable nn option.
I knew a [name_f]Frederika[/name_f] growing up. Everyone called her [name_u]Freddie[/name_u]. Not my favorite, but I appreciate an unusual name!
I adore [name_f]Frederica[/name_f] obviously (although I slightly prefer the [name_f]Frederika[/name_f] spelling), but don’t see it as clunky in the way that I might a [name_f]Mildred[/name_f] or Ermintrude, and personally think the ‘k’ sound is vibrant rather than harsh. [name_u]Red[/name_u] is a cool nickname I’ve considered in the past.
Sometimes people find feminizations of well known boys names clunky - especially if they aren’t in heavy rotation.
But that’ more about what they are used to then how they’d feel about it in the future. It’s similar to when you hear
a very unusual name with sounds you aren’t used to - sometimes it take a while for your brain to go “actually it’s lovely”.
Human nature I guess.
People also find [name_f]Thomasina[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] etc clunky at times. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t let that change your mind from a great name
that you like. Personally I like [name_f]Frederica[/name_f]/[name_f]Frederika[/name_f] with all the letters and syllables best. Everything else seems abbreviated.
And honestly, if you chose if for a child and she felt it was clunky she has so many nn options ([name_u]Freddy[/name_u], [name_f]Erica[/name_f], [name_f]Air[/name_f], [name_u]Ari[/name_u], [name_u]Red[/name_u],
[name_f]Frida[/name_f] etc) to go by her name would be her oyster.
