My DH has been dropping hints lately about the next child’s name, whether they be girl or boy that it will be French to honour his heritage. I have no problem with that, we both like [name]Aveline[/name] for a girl and I know he adores [name]Camille[/name] which I also like even though it is unisex. However when it comes to boy names, I still feel that some feel a little pretentious (which I find with his name [name]Etienne[/name]).
So here is my question: What are your favourite French boy names?
And what would you pair with [name]Susannah[/name], our eldest child?
This is just for fun pondering, we will probably be TTC late 2013, early 2014…
I quite like [name]Bastien[/name], [name]Corin[/name], [name]Louis[/name] and [name]Remy[/name]. They all should go well with [name]Susannah[/name], as it retains that sort of vibe.
Aristide is my favorite and I intend to use it one day since it will work if we stay in the States or go back to [name]France[/name].
I also like most of [name]Mischa[/name]'s list, part of DHs name is on there so I’ll just add these on. Some of these are not strictly French but are considered classic names in [name]France[/name]. I also have a bunch in my sig
[name]Maxence[/name]
[name]Arnaud[/name]
[name]Bertrand[/name]
[name]Calixte[/name] (was on my list for awhile)
Maxandre
[name]Gustave[/name]
[name]Eloi[/name]
Enguerrand
[name]Bertrand[/name]
Augustave
[name]Constant[/name]

[name]Stephane[/name]
[name]Valere[/name]
Hyppolite
[name]Eduard[/name]
Vianney (loving this right now)
On phone can’t do accents, please excuse any autocorrections
Then there are others that are probably too pretentious sounding for your taste but I’ll list them just in case:
[name]Aramis[/name]
[name]Averill[/name]
[name]Barthelemy[/name]
[name]Blaise[/name]
[name]Byron[/name]
D’artagnan
[name]Devereaux[/name] — love this a lot with nn [name]Dev[/name]
Fontaine
[name]Fraser[/name]
[name]Lucien[/name]
[name]Montague[/name]
[name]Percival[/name]
French and not pretentious. Hmm, let me see what suggestions I can think up.
What about [name]Susannah[/name] and:
[name]Adrien[/name]
[name]Andre[/name]
[name]Armand[/name] (probably too pretentious for you, but I adore this name especially paired with [name]Susannah[/name])
[name]Aubin[/name]
[name]Bastien[/name]
[name]Bruno[/name] (origins aren’t French, but the name is used there)
[name]Charles[/name] (pronounced differently in French, so I’m not sure if that is a dealbreaker — there’s probably going to be several of those in my suggestions)
[name]Corin[/name]
[name]Fabien[/name]
[name]Georges[/name]
[name]Gerard[/name]
[name]Gustave[/name]
[name]Hector[/name]
[name]Henri[/name]
[name]Jules[/name] / [name]Julien[/name]
[name]Laurent[/name]
[name]Louis[/name]
[name]Marc[/name]
[name]Nicolas[/name]
[name]Pascal[/name]
[name]Paul[/name]
[name]Remy[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]
[name]Yves[/name]
[name]Leo[/name]
I like [name]Bellamy[/name], [name]Dax[/name], [name]Laramie[/name], [name]Destin[/name], [name]Royce[/name], [name]Emery[/name], [name]Beau[/name], [name]Blaise[/name], [name]Aubrey[/name], [name]Emil[/name], [name]Tristan[/name], and [name]Thierry[/name]
I love [name]Etienne[/name]! I know a few, and I don’t think it’s pretentious (then again, I do like pretentious names sometimes, hehe)
On my list, I have:
[name]Louis[/name]
Sébastien
[name]Bruno[/name] (I know a handful of French Brunos, too)
[name]Simon[/name]
Vespasien (not exactly the most practical, but I think it’s cool)
[name]Marius[/name] (one of my favourite names of all time!)
[name]Jules[/name]
Gaël
[name]Fabien[/name]
Cédric
I love Cédric (or [name]Cedric[/name]) with [name]Susannah[/name]! [name]Susannah[/name] is lovely, by the way.
I really love [name]Louis[/name] and [name]Auguste[/name]! [name]Even[/name] though they’re not French, my best friend had triplets a couple years ago, and she had [name]Jonas[/name], [name]Auguste[/name], and [name]Caspar[/name] picked out if they were all boys. I think those would work pretty well in French. I especially love [name]Auguste[/name], and I think [name]Caspar[/name] (or even [name]Gaspard[/name]) would be pretty cool.
I really like these, as well:
[name]Luc[/name]
[name]Loic[/name]
[name]Sebastien[/name]
[name]Olivier[/name]
[name]Alexandre[/name]
[name]Arnaud[/name]
[name]Armand[/name]
[name]Aurelien[/name] ([name]LOVE[/name]!)
[name]Benoit[/name] (I love a lot of double barrel boys’ French names, too, like [name]Jean[/name]-[name]Benoit[/name], etc.)
[name]Christophe[/name]
D’Arcy/[name]Darcy[/name]
[name]Thierry[/name]
[name]Jules[/name]
I always thought [name]Devereaux[/name]/Devereux would be really cool, too, although it’s more French surnamey, and I’m not sure how acceptable that’d be in French culture.
[name]Sebastien[/name], [name]Aurelien[/name], [name]Louis[/name] and [name]Auguste[/name] are definitely my favorites, and I love them with [name]Susannah[/name]!
here are some typical french names i’ve recently heard around town on american babies…as you can see, these names are said the same way in both languages.
There are other nice french names, but they are your standard [name]Christian[/name] names: [name]Charles[/name], [name]Henri[/name], [name]Stephane[/name], [name]Phillipe[/name], [name]Marc[/name], [name]Paul[/name]
I absolutely adore [name]Amad[/name]é, which is the French version of [name]Amadeus[/name], I think.
Other favourites:
Sébastien
[name]Pierre[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name]
Cédric
In my opinion, they all sound pretty nice with with [name]Susannah[/name].
[name]Remy[/name] without a doubt. My second son (who passed away) was named [name]Remy[/name] [name]Forrester[/name]. I just adored his name! It’s a great name!
I love [name]Olivier[/name] and [name]Benoit[/name], and have a soft spot for [name]Rudy[/name] though it’s not as obviously French- I knew a little French boy with that name who was the cutest kid.
