I am at a loss for the perfect name if this LO is a son, and I love [name_m]French[/name_m] names.
While I adore names like [name_m]Etienne[/name_m], Dieudonne or [name_u]Jean[/name_u]-[name_m]Pierre[/name_m], I am afraid those names won’t fly in my multi-ethnic family.
I am looking for a name with [name_m]French[/name_m] flair, but not stereotypical in-your-face [name_m]French[/name_m]. Make sense?
The few we have considered are:
[name_m]Gerard[/name_m]
[name_m]Renard[/name_m]
[name_u]Blaise[/name_u]
[name_m]Sylvan[/name_m]
[name_m]Rodric[/name_m]
[name_m]Victor[/name_m]
[name_m]Romain[/name_m]
None jump out and a few have had some negative feedback on sites and [name_m]IRL[/name_m] conversations.
If it helps, our DD is named [name_f]Clarisse[/name_f] and our top choice if LO is a girl is [name_f]Nadine[/name_f].
Thank you. I like [name_u]Remy[/name_u] a lot because it is simple and easy to pronounce in many languages.
[name_m]Gilles[/name_m] is too hard for my family in [name_f]Italy[/name_f], Philippines and USA to pronounce - but I do like the name!
[name_m]Mathieu[/name_m] is quite common, but I will suggest that and [name_u]Maxime[/name_u] to Dh just in case. The middle name is Makisig, so they may not work. But sincere thanks for the response!
I used to watch a little boy who’s mom was from [name_u]America[/name_u] and dad was from [name_f]France[/name_f]. They wanted a name that you could pronounce easily and naturally in [name_m]French[/name_m] but that wouldnt be too much living in the US. I loved the name they chose- Lèo. Pronounced the [name_m]French[/name_m] way ‘[name_m]LAY[/name_m]-o’ instead of ‘[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-o’
Unfortunately our very close friends named their son [name_m]Leon[/name_m] [name_m]Zacchaeus[/name_m], and my cousin is also named [name_m]Leo[/name_m] and he is (also, unfortunately) in a lot of trouble lately.
Fantastic suggestion though. I didn’t even think of it!
I like [name_u]Remy[/name_u] a lot, too. It’s got a great overall international sound. We have friends who named their son [name_u]Remy[/name_u] but had not heard of it in modern use (at least in [name_u]America[/name_u]) until then. [name_u]Maxime[/name_u] is nice, but sounds a lot like [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] to me.
Some other suggestions:
[name_m]Luc[/name_m]
[name_m]Marcel[/name_m]
[name_m]Maxence[/name_m] (love [name_u]Max[/name_u]!)
I have the same problem as you, by the way, I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]French[/name_m] names but have trouble finding ones that aren’t so, well, [name_m]French[/name_m]!
Names that feel french inspired to me
[name_m]Olivier[/name_m]
[name_m]Gaspard[/name_m] ([name_m]Jasper[/name_m] and [name_m]Casper[/name_m] by similar sound)
[name_m]Milo[/name_m] (pronounced Mee-low)
[name_u]Jules[/name_u]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_u]Remi[/name_u]
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
[name_m]Matteo[/name_m] and [name_u]Luca[/name_u] have always felt very international to me.
I think [name_m]Loic[/name_m] is a great french name, I’m considering to use it myself. Other french names I like is [name_u]Remy[/name_u], Aymeric, [name_m]Louis[/name_m], [name_u]Alexis[/name_u] and [name_m]Julien[/name_m].
I saw it in a [name_m]French[/name_m] movie and after reading your post, googled it to find the name again! Then when I came back to post, you had already mentioned it haha
I love the [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation. And would love to here it on the playground! The way it was spelled in the movie was Loïc. Not sure if that is what gives it the long ‘ee’ sound? But I would probably just do [name_m]Loic[/name_m]. I think it’s totally useable! [name_m]Just[/name_m] be aware that those who aren’t much for different languages may pronounce it ‘low-ik’. Personally I think it’s cute pronounced either way.
[name_m]Gerard[/name_m] was our top choice. We live near the city of [name_m]Girard[/name_m] though, so we reconsidered. DH vetoed [name_m]Jerome[/name_m], but I quite like that name as well!
