I love [name_f]Joliet[/name_f]! [name_f][/name_f] I’m more familiar with it as a medieval [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] variant. [name_f][/name_f] I’m not a huge fan of surnames as firsts for girls, bu t I do love the sound of Bridoux! [name_f][/name_f] I have also always liked Lisieux after the saint, though it wasn’t her surname.

I am not a huge fan of surnames as first names either but since they seem on trend, I thought I would inspire people. I have had Lisieux on a middle name list but I like it because of the saint. I am not a fan of Therese itself.

I like Beausoleil, Chappelle, Delisle, [name_f]Joliet[/name_f], and Tamarelle

Ooh fun! Intrigued by Beausoleil (though it kind of feels masc to me? nn Beau?), Chappelle, Delisle, [name_f]Joliet[/name_f], Laruelle, Lémery, Luneau (!!).

[name_f][/name_f]

Would avoid quite a few in an [name_f]English[/name_f] speaking context [name_f][/name_f]- Bellet, Binoche, [name_f]Bonnet[/name_f], Castelot, Devienne, Leclair, Lavalette, Madiot, Margotton, Poncelet, Savary. But that’s just my brain connecting them to [name_f]English[/name_f] words, maybe others would feel differently.

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are Beausoleil, Chappelle, Devienne, [name_f]Joliet[/name_f]

as someone who speaks french, beausoleil would always seem as bit strange for me on a girl because translated it means ‘handsome sun’ whereas belle would be used for a girl. :love_letter:

These are so interesting! Broadly, I’d put them into three categories:

[name_f][/name_f]

Useable [name_f][/name_f]- Riviére, Tamarelle, Simonet, Luneau, Lémery, Laruelle (!), Leclaire (!), [name_f]Joliet[/name_f], Devienne, Deslys, Desrose (!), Demailley, Delisle, Chapelle, and Beausoleil (!)

[name_f][/name_f]

Intriguing, if a little trickier to pronounce/wear [name_f][/name_f]- Verzelen, [name_m]Verdon[/name_m], Verany, Savary, Rondelet, Reverdin, Ravanel, Manoury, Mandrillon, Loreiux, Lamuniere, Lalande, Fontaine, Desmarais, [name_m]Delon[/name_m], Candelon, Brideaux

[name_f][/name_f]

Unusable or deeply unconventional imho [name_f][/name_f]- Popelin, Poncelet, Margotton, Madiot, Lavillenie, Lavanchy, Lavalette, Champlain, Castelot, Brisson, Brindeau, Boudreaux, Bonnett, Binoche, Bellet

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] unusable choices tend to be because they sound like a non name word in [name_f]English[/name_f] (would quite possibly be a different story in another language) like Bellet “Belly”, Madiot “Mad/idiot”, or Popelin “Pope-lynn”. I’ve also added a (!) for names I particularly like.

As a [name_f]French[/name_f], I have never heard most of them.

[name_f][/name_f]

Beausoleil and Leclair are masculine, Fontaine or Laruelle would have a s3xual connotation. Chapelle is only one P, very religious. [name_f]Bonnet[/name_f] means hat and is masculine. Binoche, Boudreaux, Brisson, Lavillenie, Bellet, [name_m]Lafayette[/name_m], [name_m]Delon[/name_m], Rondelet, Popelin, would not be wearable. Candelon, Brindeau, Desmairais, Poncelet, Candelon hard to wear for a boy, unwearable for a girl.

[name_f][/name_f]

Luneau, Castelot, Delisle, Lorieux, Reverdin, [name_m]Verdon[/name_m], Champlain could probably work for a boy.

[name_f][/name_f]

Verany, Tamarelle, Simonet, Savary, Rivière, Ravanel, Manoury, Mandrillon, Madiot, Lémery, Lavanchy, Lamunière, Lalande, [name_f]Joliet[/name_f], Devienne, Deslys, Desroses, Demailly could probably work for a girl.

[name_f][/name_f]

Not sure about Verzelen and Margotton.
