✨ Freya and Twyla

A fun little thread for my own amusement

I don’t remember exactly how we got on the subject of this but names were a topic of conversation at the dinner table last night, starting with my mom saying how she wishes she’d known about the name Freya before she had kids because it might’ve been a name she would’ve pushed for (Dad retained a perfectly neutral face throughout so unsure what he thought lol!).

A name they briefly talked about when they were actually in the business of naming kids was Twyla, but it wasn’t well received by my grandparents so they scrapped it early on. I think the sibset of Twyla and Freya is simply :sparkles: stunning :sparkles: , but then there’s a problem: my parents had three daughters

Imagining that my parents had named their first two children (me and my middle sister) Twyla and Freya, what name would you pick for their third (my youngest sister)?

Also, what do you think of Twyla and Freya? Do you think the names go well or am I alone here?

Thanks for indulging me!

Those are great together and apart.
Maybe the third might be:
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Raina[/name_f]
[name_f]Jada[/name_f]
[name_f]Maxine[/name_f]
[name_f]Linnea[/name_f]
[name_f]Jasmine[/name_f]
[name_u]Harmony[/name_u]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]

[name_f]Twyla[/name_f] and [name_f]Freya[/name_f] are such a cool set! I think the disparity in popularity here in the UK would bother me a tad, but soundwise, vibewise - perfect!

[name_f]Twyla[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and…

[name_f]Mira[/name_f]
[name_f]Brynja[/name_f]
[name_f]Opal[/name_f]
[name_f]Nina[/name_f]
[name_f]Saskia[/name_f]
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f]

[name_f]Twyla[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f], and [name_f]Bruna[/name_f]!

[name_f]Freya[/name_f] is a little boring to me compared to [name_f]Twyla[/name_f] just because it’s the #1 name in my specific area of [name_u]Scotland[/name_u] currently while [name_f]Twyla[/name_f] is practically unheard of, but I do still love it, and I think they go great together.

[name_f]Twyla[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f], and [name_f]Idony[/name_f].

I used to like [name_f]Twyla[/name_f] much more than I do now, and quite strongly prefer this spelling to [name_f]Twila[/name_f]. Now I like them about the same, which is a decent amount, though they both feel the tiniest bit synthetic.

[name_f]Freya[/name_f] is pretty, summery, magical, not yet tired. I know the original spelling is [name_f]Freyja[/name_f], but my brain wants me to pronounce it FRAY-zha which I know is incorrect (and which isn’t terribly attractive).

They go surprisingly well together, considering [name_f]Twyla[/name_f] is a relatively modern invention and [name_f]Freya[/name_f] is millennia old.

[name_f]Petra[/name_f] and [name_f]Zara[/name_f] were my first thoughts, but I’d really want to continue the ‘y’ theme, so: [name_f]Cybele[/name_f], [name_u]Nyx[/name_u], [name_f]Maelys[/name_f], or [name_f]Yara[/name_f].

Also, [name_f]Twyla[/name_f] and [name_f]Freya[/name_f] fit well together; they sound like very plausible sisters to me (in the US at least!)

Such a sweet sibset. I would probably stick with a five letter, two syllable name, so my suggestions are [name_f]Twyla[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f], and:
[name_f]Aphra[/name_f]
[name_f]Belva[/name_f]
[name_f]Petra[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Moira[/name_f]
[name_f]Brisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Zosia[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Zahra[/name_f]
[name_u]Aster[/name_u]
[name_f]Selma[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Twyla[/name_f] and [name_f]Freya[/name_f]! Two phenomenal names. They feel very light and faerie-like. Natural and spunky. They’re great individually, and they’re made to go together. :fairy:

[name_f]Twyla[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f], and…
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Carys[/name_f]
[name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f]
[name_f]Sansa[/name_f]
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]
[name_f]Wendy[/name_f]
[name_f]Lyra[/name_f] or [name_f]Lyla[/name_f]
[name_f]Manon[/name_f]
[name_f]Wynonna[/name_f]

I’d ultimately choose [name_f]Carys[/name_f] as your third sister! :tangerine:

[name_f]Freya[/name_f] is almost unheard of in the US, at least until the last couple years! I’ve definitely never heard of a [name_f]Freya[/name_f] before. It’s funny seeing the UK perspective that [name_f]Freya[/name_f] is too common to be with [name_f]Twyla[/name_f] because it was a contestant on the Great British Bake-Off who introduced my parents to the name [name_f]Freya[/name_f]

All of these responses will be based on my tastes, not necessarily what my parents (might) like

@Victory55 My cousin’s name is listed here! I think it would be phenomenal with the set. I also like Phoebe and Daphne!

@Greyblue Brynja, Opal, Saskia, Astrid, Una, Romy, and Elara would be wonderful sister names!

@VioletMoon Athena is such a great idea! I also love Vida, Cleo, Thalia, and Opal in the set!

@Luminen I love the consistency of length, sound, and vibe with Bruno!

@marysia Idony is gorgeous in the set! Freyja is actually my preferred spelling usually—idk, something about the silent J gives it an extra spark for me. But if my parents had actually used the name, I only see them with Freya, for the same reason you listed!

@VEL Petra, Zara, and Yara are my favorites in the set, but I love all of those ideas!

@lenamurph ah, another pattern lover! Petra, Sybil, Willa, Zosia, and Zahra are my favorite sister ideas!

This was my exact thought when my parents brought up these names in the same conversation! Accompanied by a daydream of being a Twyla . It’s a much different vibe than the set they ended up with lol.
I love Daphne, Phoebe, Carys, Sansa, and Lyra in the set!

Maybe [name_f]Twyla[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f], and [name_f]Luna[/name_f] or [name_f]Twyla[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f], and [name_f]Aine[/name_f]? [name_f]Twyla[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f], and [name_f]Liv[/name_f]?

They actually seem quite different to me, [name_f]Twyla[/name_f] feels very 80s to me (I’m 99% sure I’m smooshing [name_f]Shania[/name_f] [name_m]Twain[/name_m] and my 80s-born friend [name_f]Starla[/name_f] lol) and astronomical (twilight, etc.), and [name_f]Freya[/name_f] feels very modern/mythological. But I could totally see something like [name_f]Twyla[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f], and [name_f]Liv[/name_f] being sisters.

I would definitely definitely want to use a 5 letter name including the letter y as that’s such a great subtle way to tie the siblings together.

[name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_f]Twyla[/name_f] and…

[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]

I do like [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and [name_f]Twyla[/name_f] together, although I would choose the [name_f]Twila[/name_f] spelling. It feels more streamlined to me.

[name_f]My[/name_f] choices would be
[name_f]Twyla[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and [name_u]Robin[/name_u]
