Freya US popularity

I’m worried that in a few years [name_f]Freya[/name_f] will become too popular in the U.S. I know it’s top 25 in the UK, and it’s suggested a LOT over forums and blogs. Right now it’s in the 500’s in the U.S.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you guys think in a few years [name_f]Freya[/name_f] will be too common? It’s my all time favorite name for a little girl but I’d hate to see it become top 100 over here.

I can see it getting higher but I really don’t think it’ll get in the top 100

[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t worry, honestly. In [name_f]England[/name_f], it’s, like you said, in the top 25, but I’ve personally met 1 [name_f]Freya[/name_f]. She was 18 though. [name_f]Freya[/name_f] is my #2 name, I love it.

[name_f]Freya[/name_f] has just entered my Top 20 and I worry about popularity (for all my names really). That said it’s not a name that’s ever mentioned in all my many mom circles. I feel like it will be a name like [name_f]Carys[/name_f]. It will be recognizable and have some popularity but won’t ever be super common.

Thank you guys! I think maybe just because it’s mentioned frequently on nameberry doesn’t mean that the general population is going to use it.

I feel bad for mothers who named their child something less common and then afterwards the name became mega popular. I would be so upset!

I can see it gaining popularity but I don’t see it breaking the top 10, 25, or even 50 anytime remotely soon.

Besides, you can usually predict naming trends a few years in advance, so even if you used it and then it became really popular ten years later, would it be an issue? My only slight concern might be that people may expect the child to be younger, for jobs and stuff, but mostly they’d probably just seem really trendy in high school/college. Maybe it’s just me, but as a teen I thought it was really cool when friends had names that were unusual for our age but trendy on babies.

This is a fun site for looking at the name popularity data (which I care a lot about): http://names.mooseroots.com/l/91765/Freya

At [name_f]Freya[/name_f]'s current popularity, that’s a rough average of about 10 babies per state. I always like to think of it that way, because that tells you more than overall trends for how likely you’ll be to have three in the same class at school. (I always look at the state-by-state data, too.)

My husband’s name hit the No. 1 spot 20 years after he was born. My name was in the No. 1 spot 20 years before I was born. It’s definitely better to be ahead of the curve, but still somewhat annoying to him that seemingly every playground in the world includes a mom yelling his name at a small child.

Like my mom naming my sister [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] in the early 90s and now having an [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] in her kindergarten classes every year.
