We are finding out the gender of our baby on FRIDAY (woohoo!) so I should probably wait on this just to make sure it’s a boy, BUT my husband and I are both getting boy vibes lately. Our son is [name_m]Konrad[/name_m] [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m] and we are having a really hard time coming up with a name that we both love as much as his name.
Right now our two front runners are:
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] ([name_m]Just[/name_m] a name we like)
or
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m] nn [name_m]Fritz[/name_m] (My FIL’s name is [name_m]Fred[/name_m] so we would only call him Fritz, no Fred/Freddy/Frederick)
Any thoughts? Also open to suggestions as we just CAN’T find something we agree on…If it helps, if baby is a girl it’ll probably be [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] or [name_f]Mabel[/name_f].
Thanks, berries!
If we did [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] we would probably use a family name in middle, most likely [name_m]John[/name_m], my dad’s name. However, we don’t want an “every day” [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] or [name_m]Fred[/name_m] since his dad goes by that, so that’s why we were thinking [name_m]Fritz[/name_m] as the nn.
I love [name_m]Fritz[/name_m] as a nn for [name_m]Fredrick[/name_m] and both [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] and [name_m]Fritz[/name_m] go so well with [name_m]Konrad[/name_m].
[name_m]Fritz[/name_m] / [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] is fantastic- it reminds me of [name_m]Fritz[/name_m] Lang, director of Metropolis. Plus, with [name_m]Konrad[/name_m] [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m], you have a lovely, strong Germanic feel going, which I really like.
Is [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] an option? I love [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] with [name_m]Konrad[/name_m]. I also would hesitate to use [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] seeing as you want him to exclusively be [name_m]Fritz[/name_m] when there’s a chance that he could one day want to go by [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]/[name_u]Freddie[/name_u]/etc…instead of [name_m]Fritz[/name_m]. [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] seems much less complicated - and [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] seems to be a better choice for a middle name. [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m] is great as well.
I love [name_m]Fritz[/name_m] as a nn for [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]! [name_m]Frits[/name_m] (Dutch spelling) was a very popular name in my father’s family a few generations back, so I may be a bit partial. Anyway, I think it’s a super fun, spunky name that he can always put by the wayside in the future should he choose to. I do love [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] (I sometimes regret “wasting” it on my dog :)), but I really like how you get in two honorifics by using [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] up front, as well as a zippy germanic appellation.
I love [name_m]Fritz[/name_m] as a nn for [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] as well – and I think it makes such a great combo with [name_m]Konrad[/name_m]! I’ve always had a weird thing for [name_m]Fritz[/name_m] because of the Nutcracker…! And for your girls, I think [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] is beautiful and goes wonderfully with [name_m]Konrad[/name_m] as well.
It is definitely an option! It’s my husband’s first choice and I do think it’s super handsome, but I really want to honor my family somehow (since the kids’ last names will already honor my husband’s side) and he won’t budge. If my husband had his way it would be [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m], hands down. I’m just trying to find a compromise. I actually really like the sound of [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m], but am hoping to figure out a way to honor my side.
Thank you! I love that [name_m]Fritz[/name_m] was well-used ‘back in the day’ I love that it honors two people, too. But [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] is soooo handsome! Hard choice!
Thank you! Yes, we definitely have a Germanic vibe going. My husband’s name is [name_m]Klaus[/name_m] so he REALLY loves the [name_m]German[/name_m] names (he suggested [name_m]Ludwig[/name_m] and I just couldn’t go with that, unfortunately!). Thanks for your help!
I adore the nn [name_m]Fritz[/name_m]! I would love to meet a little [name_m]Fritz[/name_m] and like others said, it would sound great with [name_m]Konrad[/name_m].
