Is there any room for the name [name_u]Frost[/name_u] in a family that doesn’t have any other “whimsical” names?
[name_f]My[/name_f] instinct is No, but the poet [name_m]Robert[/name_m] [name_u]Frost[/name_u] was such a huge part of my academic career that I just keep coming back to the idea. I thought a 60 page thesis would have gotten his poetry out of my system, but I just love it even more now.
EDIT: What combo’s would you suggest to include it smoothly in our family?
Zoë, Owen, Lewis, and Frost might be over doing the "O"s, but I do love it as a mn. Especially because we have so many Roberts in our circle. To pull some of my more traditional favorites:
Tessa Frost [Last name pronounced like Sailor]
Liam Frost
What other kinds of names are in your family? That might help figure out if it will work or not. If you think it really won’t work as a first name, you could use as a middle and call him/her [name_u]Frost[/name_u].
I think the literary air/renown of [name_m]Robert[/name_m] [name_u]Frost[/name_u] gives it more respectability than if you chose it just as a noun name. As a surname name I would put it in the middle spot rather than the first. Plus your other three kids have ro/or in their middle names. Then again, I see those are family names in the middle. Maybe a family name first with [name_u]Frost[/name_u] as the middle? Or two middle names?
I think it’s fine. It’s not that different from [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] or [name_m]Foster[/name_m], and it’s also the surname of a well-known newscaster. He might get a few [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]Frost[/name_u] or ‘Frosty’ jokes, but no big deal.
It’s a little cold for a first name but since [name_m]Robert[/name_m] [name_u]Frost[/name_u] is special to you I think it would be a memorable mn choice.
[name_f]My[/name_f] family has pretty traditional names & family honor names & trendy names ([name_f]Kaitlyn[/name_f], [name_f]Keira[/name_f], etc) and there would be some wrinkled noses and raised eyebrows if I busted out with “[name_u]Frost[/name_u]” but I love love love it so much. I don’t even have as good a reason as you do. I just like the edgy modernity and simplicity.
I’d probably use it as a middle, esp with names that are otherwise rather conventional or popular, to give an edgy modern feel. I want to use it as a first name but [name_u]Frost[/name_u] is already in the urban slang dictionary in slang for sex/drugs.
I like your reason behind the name, but I’m not keen on it as a first name. I think you have some pretty handsome pairings though. I especially like the idea of [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_u]Frost[/name_u] together- very strong!
I think it’d work better in the middle name, but my motto is: if you truly love it, then use it. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t care what anyone thinks, just go with your gut feeling.
I love it! [name_m]Robert[/name_m] [name_u]Frost[/name_u] is an amazing figure with whom to be associated. I also like the sound/style of the name itself. I wouldn’t go with just [name_m]Robert[/name_m] b/c that could be anybody. [name_u]Frost[/name_u] is special. I do agree with others who suggested pairing with a more classic/traditional mn.
So happy to know it does illicit an immediate “Bizarre!” response from everyone!
I would very much appreciate some suggestions for a first name, if I were to use Frost in the middle.
Zoë, Owen, Lewis, and ___ Frost (Our last name is pronounced similar to Sailor)
Some of my traditional favorites to temper the more odd Frost are Tessa, and Liam. (Henry, Charles, James, Anna, Marie are off the table as names of the children of friends)
I don’t think it’s too much of an issue but you could always use a name that means frost, or something similar. Then the name will definitely fit and the meaning will still be there for you, which is all that matters.
[name_u]Frost[/name_u] could also be anybody, it’s a surname after all and other people have had it too. For example: Frost (surname) - Wikipedia
Then there’s [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]Frost[/name_u], the weather ‘frost’…
I could see something like [name_f]Bronte[/name_f] being an obvious honour name to the [name_f]Bronte[/name_f] sisters but if someone said [name_u]Frost[/name_u] to me my first thought wouldn’t be [name_m]Robert[/name_m] [name_u]Frost[/name_u].
I actually like it as a name. It flows well either way as a middle name or first name. [name_f]Do[/name_f] what you are comfortable with. I named my boy twin [name_m]Asher[/name_m] [name_m]Grayson[/name_m]. [name_f]My[/name_f] best friend kept telling me with a long last name (9 letters) that having a long middle name would be too overdone and to consider naming him [name_m]Asher[/name_m] [name_u]Gray[/name_u]. I politely declined and I love his name. So if you love [name_u]Frost[/name_u], and it has meaning for you, then go with it!
