I love [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], but the only name that I know it can be short for is [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] (or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]) and I just don’t love [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]. So, are there others [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] can be short for without being too much of a stretch?
Elspeth
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] (this is the only [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] I know)
[name_f]Elsa[/name_f]
[name_f]Elsinore[/name_f]
Elaine
[name_f]Ella[/name_f]
All above, plus:
Elise/Elisa/Elissa
[name_u]Chelsea[/name_u]
[name_f]Melissa[/name_f]
Elspeth
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Elswyth[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]
[name_f]Alessia[/name_f]
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Estella[/name_f]
[name_u]Louise[/name_u] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] ‘LC’
@winterara
[name_f]Elyse[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
Elyra
[name_f]Elsa[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
Chelsea
Elsie is cute. I love [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] or even [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f]. [name_f]Elinor[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Elsinore[/name_f] also come to mind.
Any name that starts with “[name_f]El[/name_f]…” works. Or, any long-sounding L name could also work.
Already mentioned but some of my favourites for [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] are:
Elspeth
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Demelza[/name_f] (does this work?)
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]/a
Love the name [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]!
I prefer [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] over the longer full names. I also like [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] which could easily have the nn [name_f]Elsie[/name_f].
@lunasapphire
I think some people can pull [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] off just fine despite the association, but given how big Disney fans my family is, it would never work for me. That’s okay, though. I think I’ve decided on just leaving it at [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], at least for the time being.
Ooh! Now I have to read those books! I’ve heard the name, but I never knew they were books.
I am a [name_u]Christian[/name_u], so they should be fun to read! Thanks for mentioning them!
I have four (recent) ancestors who were all named [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]. It wasn’t short for anything. If you like [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], but don’t like any of the longer variations, I think it can stand alone just fine.
@lunasapphire aw, thank you!!
@shells15 thank you. It means a lot coming from someone whose naming habits I really respect.
You’re welcome. Thank you for saying that. You just made my day.
You’re welcome!
