Full name for Flora

I love the name flora, but was wondering if it would be short for anything!

Thanks!

It could be short for [name_f]Florence[/name_f]

I second pp’s suggestion of [name_f]Florence[/name_f]. If you want to go the frillier route there is also [name_f]Florencia[/name_f], [name_f]Florentina[/name_f], [name_f]Florina[/name_f] or [name_f]Floriana[/name_f]. I’ve also seen Floralie around as an elaboration a la [name_f]Coralie[/name_f]/Noralie/[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f].

[name_f]Florence[/name_f], which is so classic, works nicely. There’s also the Spanish Florecita, but I know that doesn’t work for everyone’s style:) [name_m]Just[/name_m] thought I’d put it out there.

There’s the Italian city, [name_f]Florence[/name_f], also spelt Firenze in Italian, just to classify it’s still said like [name_f]Florence[/name_f]. The city is a beautiful place so if you were to name your child [name_f]Florence[/name_f], a full name for [name_f]Florence[/name_f], definitely think about Firenze.

I do love the name [name_f]Florence[/name_f], unfortunately DH doesn’t like it!
We got married in [name_f]Florence[/name_f], so he thinks it’s weird!

I do like Floralie. However, we have a niece (who we see weekly) named [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], is this too similar??

Floralie is the only name I can think of other than [name_f]Florence[/name_f]

Hmm, I do think Floralie is a bit too close to [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] to be honest, since they sound so similar AND they’re both floral in theme. I would assume you kind of copied the niece’s name. I think [name_f]Flora[/name_f] is gorgeous on its own! It’s a well established name with plenty of history, no need for a longer version in my opinion.

[name_f]Flora[/name_f] is one of my all-time favorite names! I always go back and forth on whether to use [name_f]Flora[/name_f] on its own, or an elaboration. Right now I’m leaning more towards [name_f]Flora[/name_f] as a standalone name, but if I were to use a longer form, vintage [name_f]Florence[/name_f] would be my pick. I also second the suggestions of [name_f]Florentina[/name_f], [name_f]Florencia[/name_f], [name_f]Florina[/name_f], and Floralie. Other options could be Florimel (Latin for sweet honey flower), [name_f]Florinda[/name_f], [name_f]Fiorella[/name_f], and [name_f]Florette[/name_f]/[name_f]Floretta[/name_f].

[name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Florentina[/name_f], [name_f]Floria[/name_f], [name_f]Florina[/name_f], [name_f]Floriana[/name_f]… I would go with just [name_f]Flora[/name_f] though because I think she is more distinctive and I love the relation to [name_m]Roman[/name_m] mythology and nature, I also like names to be more simple and straightforward, I seem to think they are stronger and more attractive and bold that way. [name_f]Flora[/name_f] is her own name!

I kinda like [name_f]Flora[/name_f] on its own…

Depending on your heritage and where you live, these might be some more options (avoiding repeats):

Florabel/ Florabelle/ Florabella (“beautiful flower”). It was used (as Fiorebella) in 16th-century [name_f]Italy[/name_f]. Bellaflor (or Beleflor) was also used in 13th-century Italy
Florabel ; Bellaflor

Floretia (“flowering”) was used in twelfth-century [name_f]France[/name_f]

[name_f]Fioralba[/name_f] might be another option (the Fior- part is from the same root as [name_f]Flora[/name_f], even though it doesn’t have the Fl- beginning).

[name_f]Flordelis[/name_f] might be an option, as might [name_f]Florida[/name_f] (though I expect that one might not impress your husband).

If you like boys’ names on girls, there’s the masculine [name_u]Floris[/name_u] and [name_u]Florian[/name_u] (they are definitely masculine in the Netherlands and Belgium). There’s also the [name_m]French[/name_m] feminine name Floriane (bearers include French runner Floriane Gnafoua, German actress Floriane Daniel and Belgian rabbi Floriane Chinsky).

I love [name_f]Flora[/name_f] (as a full name).

Other possibilities (I’m trying to avoid too many repeats but I’ll probably still list some names that were already mentioned)

[name_f]Floralia[/name_f]

[name_f]Floriana[/name_f]

[name_f]Florina[/name_f] (I personally really like that one)

[name_f]Fiorella[/name_f] (I know a really lovely woman named [name_f]Fiorella[/name_f], which is probably why I like this name so much…)

[name_f]Floria[/name_f]

[name_f]Florella[/name_f]

[name_f]Floriana[/name_f]

Florianne/ Florienne

[name_f]Floretta[/name_f]

[name_u]Florentine[/name_u]

[name_f]Florentina[/name_f]

[name_f]Florinda[/name_f]

[name_f]Florencia[/name_f] / Florenzia / [name_f]Florentia[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Flora[/name_f] on its own. I dislike the longer forms.
