[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all,
Some of you may remember me, I made a post here weeks back. [name_f]My[/name_f] wife and I further narrowed our options for a full first name to be able to use the nn [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. Wife wants to have a longer first name. I’d really appreciate feedback on the options below, thank you! [name_u]Baby[/name_u] will be mixed race- caucasian and east asian.
- [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] Gessler - I’m wondering whether it would sound odd to have an Italian origin first name (with no Italian origin) with a [name_m]German[/name_m] last name? Here in the US, the name is popular in CA & TX.
- [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] Gessler - didn’t care for it at first, but I’m warming up to it; [name_m]German[/name_m] roots which would match up with the last name; here in the US, the name is most popular in NY.
- [name_m]Leonel[/name_m] Gessler - seems like this spelling variation started being used more recently as an easier way to get to [name_m]Leo[/name_m] vs. the more popular “[name_u]Lionel[/name_u]”. I’m getting a sense [name_u]Lionel[/name_u] & [name_m]Leonel[/name_m] sounds a bit southern here in the US.
- [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m] Gessler
i absolutely love [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] and [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m]!!
Leopold!!! It’s so handsome, dashing, and unexpected. I’ve met other “[name_m]Leo[/name_m]” names, but never a [name_m]Leopold[/name_m], and I’d absolutely love to meet one! It also sounds great with Gessler!
[name_f]My[/name_f] second choice would be [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m], though it does feel a bit more braver and bolder! I also really love the sound of [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m]. I do think it’s a bit more common than your other choices (but not popular!). I don’t think it’d be weird at all to use it, as I’ve known people who aren’t Italian named [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m]!
(Also, I’m from NY, and haven’t even heard of a [name_m]Leopold[/name_m], so I’m extremely surprised!
obviously I know it’s a big place with lots of people, just surprising to hear!)
Leopold is my favourite! [name_m]Don[/name_m]’t think [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] would sound odd
I adore [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m]
Leo is such a cute nickname!
I like [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] the best from your list. I think it flows nicely and is familiar enough to people that they’re be able to spell and pronounce it. I do like [name_m]Leon[/name_m] the best in terms of longer versions of [name_m]Leo[/name_m] though.
Leopold and [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] are my favorites!
