I once knew a girl named [name_f]Marilee[/name_f]. I thought her name was gorgeousness and often thought about it when I looked into names for various reasons. My question to all of you is, if one did not want to name her child [name_f]Marilee[/name_f], but have it as a nickname, what would [name_f]Marilee[/name_f]'s full name be? Would it be a nickname of the first name as [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] is to [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f], or would it be a smush of the first and middle name, like [name_f]JoAnne[/name_f] is to [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]? As many ideas as you can think of is helpful, but more importantly what would you use if you didn’t want [name_f]Marilee[/name_f]'s full name to be [name_f]Marilee[/name_f]?
edit: The girl I met pronounced her name like the word merrily.
Is it pronounced like [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] or [name_f]Mara[/name_f] [name_u]Lee[/name_u]? I would just use [name_f]Mara[/name_f] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] if that is the sound you’re going for. This spelling looks nicer to me. If you wanted something longer or just don’t like [name_f]Mara[/name_f] I could see any [name_f]Mar[/name_f]- name working with middle name [name_u]Lee[/name_u] or any name that starts with the [name_u]Lee[/name_u] sounding syllable ex. [name_f]Marlene[/name_f] [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] or [name_f]Marie[/name_f] [name_f]Leila[/name_f].
You could also use any -lena or -line ending middle or something like [name_f]Natalie[/name_f].
A lot of smush possibilities for this one, but I think [name_f]Mara[/name_f] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] would be just fine.
