Hey all!
I have a character named [name_u]Max[/name_u], but I’m not particularly fond of just using [name_u]Max[/name_u] as a stand alone name.
As a brief overview of her, she’s 19 (born in 2002) and multiracial (her dad is Colombian while her mom is African American/Scottish); her last name is Sepúlveda; she has a twin sister named Carmen; and personality wise, she’s sarcastic and has a penchant for dark humor and trying to seem nonchalant and humorous when she’s self-conscious and defensive when intruded upon by others. I could go on a while about her parents, but to summarize her dad is fairly strict and more concerned others’ perceptions and opinions, while her mom is more eccentric and independent but fairly easy-going.
I’m less concerned about her name matching her personality than it having at least a somewhat similar feeling to her sister, [name_u]Carmen[/name_u]. All I know is her nickname is [name_u]Max[/name_u] but I’m not sure if it will be an unrelated nickname or if it stems from her birth name.
Anyways, here’s some of my thoughts:
- Obviously there’s [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] but I don’t know if it’s too old-fashioned or sounds off with [name_u]Carmen[/name_u]
- I’ve had [name_f]Maxima[/name_f] suggested before but I can’t get past the car connotations
- There’s [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u] and other more masculine [name_u]Max[/name_u] names, but considering her family, I don’t think it would sound fitting
- A friend suggested using a Spanish name such as [name_u]Maria[/name_u] or [name_f]Marisol[/name_f] with a middle name beginning with “X” such as [name_f]Ximena[/name_f], [name_f]Xena[/name_f], or [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] to get the nickname “Max” although something like [name_f]Ximena[/name_f] may not sound like it begins with “X” so I don’t know if it would be confusing or not
Any suggestions are much appreciated!
