I have a friend named [name]Yasmine[/name] I’d love to honor in my future childs name, however my partner is not a fan of the name [name]Yasmine[/name] itself. So I was thinking of [name]Madelyn[/name] / [name]Madeline[/name] nick name [name]Minnie[/name]? Does that work? I prefer the spelling [name]Madeleine[/name] to [name]Madeline[/name], but does the spelling [name]Madeline[/name] fit [name]Minnie[/name] a little better than [name]Madeleine[/name] would?
I think nicknames can work no matter what. That is why it is a nickname. I know a [name]William[/name] that goes by [name]Vinny[/name] and has his entire life. I think [name]Minnie[/name] would work for [name]Madeleine[/name] either way you spell it.
I think either spelling is fine for nn [name]Minnie[/name]. [name]Jessamine[/name] also comes to mind. It shares the meaning with [name]Yasmine[/name] and [name]Minnie[/name] is more intuitive (if you like it : D).
I think either spelling works equally well, and I do think [name]Minnie[/name] works perfectly fine as a nn for those names. [name]Minnie[/name] seems like one of those nns that is rarely actually derived exactly from the name itself. [name]Minnie[/name] Driver, for example, was born [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Fiona[/name] (boy, her parents were ahead of their time!). If it works for that, it certainly works for [name]Madeline[/name]/[name]Madeleine[/name]!
I call my [name]Matilda[/name] mini as a pet name occasionally even though officially her nn is [name]Tilly[/name]! I think mini can work for any M name really! I really like suggestion if [name]Jessamine[/name] too! And it’s also a great nn for [name]Clementine[/name] one if my favourites to answer your questioning really don’t think it matters how you spell [name]Madeleine[/name]!
[name]Jessamine[/name] (same meaning as [name]Yasmin[/name], pr. [name]Jess[/name]-a-min) sounds absolutely like the perfect way in your case to get to [name]Minnie[/name], but [name]Madeleine[/name] would be fine. I don’t like [name]Madeline[/name] nor see how it really makes anything easier. [name]Madeleine[/name] is much prettier.
I don’t like any -lyn suffix names I can think of and [name]Madelyn[/name] is definitely no exception. Kills the elegance of [name]Madeleine[/name] for me.
I do like [name]Minerva[/name] (and I had a great-Aunt [name]Minnie[/name] who was a [name]Minerva[/name]) but I know most people don’t think its ready to come back. I feel the same way about [name]Araminta[/name] - I love it, but it’s an oddity.
I love a lot of these suggestions, including Wilhelmina, Minerva, Matilda, and Clementine. Clementine is actually my number one, absolute favorite girls name ever! however, my partner hates it Along with most “old lady” names, unfortunately!! I bet he might like Jessamine though, as he likes Jessa… I’ll see what he thinks!!
I REALLY appreciate all these suggestions though and all this input!! I am feeling more confident on Madeleine nick name Minnie though (especially if an Amelia can go by Minnie too hehe <3). Thank you all so much!!!
