I really love the name [name_f]Molly[/name_f], but recently I’ve been thinking it’s too much of a nickname, and I want to try to find a longer name that I could nickname to get [name_f]Molly[/name_f]. Does anyone have any suggestions?
This is an easy one: [name_f]Molly[/name_f] originally was, and for centuries has been, a nickname for [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f].
As a [name_f]Molly[/name_f] myself, it feels silly to make it a nickname for the “wrong” names since there are hundreds of years of use with [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. But if you really hate them you can look at names related to those, like [name_f]Marina[/name_f] or [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f], or names with the [name_f]Moll[/name_f] sound - I know of an [name_f]Amalia[/name_f] NN [name_f]Molly[/name_f].
But my vote is for [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], or my top choice, just [name_f]Molly[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Molly[/name_f] is fine by itself as a full name. I know a handful of Mollys/Mollies whose name is just that, no longer form. But, if you want a longer form, then like the above said, [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] have been the full versions of the nn [name_f]Molly[/name_f] for centuries.
Others:
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Melisande[/name_f]
[name_f]Melissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Millicent[/name_f]
[name_f]Amalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Margo[/name_f]
Some of the above have other nicknames which are traditionally used but I think [name_f]Molly[/name_f] works too.
I presume you like more traditional names, but if you’re looking for something a little unusual I think [name_f]Romilly[/name_f] would make a neat full name for [name_f]Molly[/name_f].
I was going to suggest [name_f]Amalia[/name_f] as well.
