Somehow my husband (who has now gotten our son on board) has decided to call my baby boy bump Wolfie. I don’t hate it. It is rather unique, perhaps more unique than really fits our family. [name_f]My[/name_f] first son’s name is [name_u]Logan[/name_u] [name_u]Dean[/name_u]. I really actually like Wolfie as a nickname, but I would love a more classic full name. I’m not a fan of [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m]. So I’m wondering if anyone could come up with another name where Wolfie could be a nickname (even if it’s a bit of stretch!).
Thank you so much for your ideas!
Not classic, but old name. Maybe it’s similar enough?
Wulfric
[name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] nickname Wolfie
[name_m]Weston[/name_m] [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] nn Wolfie
[name_u]Channing[/name_u] means wolf cub, so maybe [name_u]Channing[/name_u] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] or [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_u]Channing[/name_u]
I am in a similar situation. [name_m]Wolfe[/name_m] would be the most obvious option. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband is really set on [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m], but [name_m]Wolfhart[/name_m] is a close contender for me. I’m not really sold on either as a fn. Wolfram?
Thanks Ladies.
You could potentially stretch [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] into Wolfie. It’s a vowel change, but similar sound.
It could also be a nickname for [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m].
What about Wolfram?
I think [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] / [name_m]Wolfe[/name_m] works just fine as a stand-alone name.
[name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m]
Wolfram
Wolfston / Wulfstan
Wulfric
Wolfin
Wolfer
Wolford
Wolfrey / Wolfryd
Wolfgar
Wolfwin
Oh dear , how stunning & romantic sounds [name_m]Wolfhart[/name_m] !
I think almost any W name could work for Wolfie. The nickname doesn’t have to 100% correspond to the full name.
Wow, I am so appreciating all the inspiration & ideas. Keep them coming. I really think we may primarily call this little guy Wolfie & agree that the nickname doesn’t have to 100% correspond to the full name.
Thank you!
I like just plain [name_m]Wolfe[/name_m], particularly in the middle slot.
Many names mean [name_m]Wolf[/name_m], including some which match [name_u]Logan[/name_u] in style quite well. What about
[name_m]Conall[/name_m] (my favorite- Irish like [name_u]Logan[/name_u] and cool-sounding)
[name_m]Conan[/name_m] (maybe a bit matchy with [name_u]Logan[/name_u])
[name_m]Connor[/name_m] (“wolf-lover”)
[name_m]Lowell[/name_m] (likely derived from [name_m]French[/name_m] ‘loup,’ meaning wolf)
[name_m]Randolph[/name_m] (‘wolf shield’)
I was going to suggest names that mean wolf too. There’s a bunch here: 20000-NAMES.COM: Wolf Names--meaning, origin, etymology
[name_f]My[/name_f] brother’s middle name is [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] (family name) and he has always liked it. He’s got a laid-back strength and that’s what I think of now.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite names that mean [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] are
[name_m]Zev[/name_m] - ‘wolf’
Ze’ev - ‘wolf’
[name_m]Raul[/name_m] - ‘wolf counsel’
[name_m]Raoul[/name_m] ‘wolf-counsel’
[name_m]Conall[/name_m] does go the best though, I just hadn’t thought of it.
I’ve seen [name_m]Weylin[/name_m] listed as a “Celtic name meaning ‘son of the wolf’” but I have no idea how accurate that is and while I like [name_m]Waylon[/name_m] as a name I’m not sure if it’s a case of a name getting a new cooler meaning on a name site.
I have seen this in actual baby name books too, some published twenty years ago if that helps. This book says it’s a form of [name_m]Phelan[/name_m] although most sources just say it is an alternative spelling of [name_m]Waylon[/name_m].
Woolsey or possibly [name_m]Warren[/name_m].
[name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the idea @blade came up with… [name_m]Conall[/name_m] and [name_u]Logan[/name_u] are darling.
Or I think [name_m]Wolf[/name_m]/[name_m]Wolfe[/name_m] would be nice in the middle spot - both boys would then have a strong, manly, 1 syllable middle ([name_u]Dean[/name_u] and [name_m]Wolf[/name_m]/[name_m]Wolfe[/name_m]) and you still get the cool nickname Wolfie!
I worry about [name_m]Wolfe[/name_m] as a middle name making him sound like a cartoon character. [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Wolfe[/name_m]. no? haha
I also really like [name_m]Conall[/name_m]!
