I’m watching a movie and there’s a little boy named Tolly, but they never say whether it’s a nickname or a full name. Any ideas of what it could be short for?
Pronounced like [name_f]Lolly[/name_f]? Or Toll-ee as in toll booth?
I know a Tolie (like toll-booth) who’s full name is [name_m]Anatole[/name_m]
Maybe [name_m]Tolliver[/name_m]?
[name_m]Tolliver[/name_m] and [name_m]Anatole[/name_m] were two that immediately came to mind, but they have already been suggested. What about something like [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]?
[name_m]How[/name_m] was Tolly pronounced? Like [name_m]Tah[/name_m] - lee or Toll - ee? If it was the first I think [name_m]Talbot[/name_m] or [name_u]Taliesin[/name_u] could work.
I looked on BehindtheName and Tolly is a diminutive for [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m]. Meaning, origin and history of the name Tolly - Behind the Name
I like [name_u]Tali[/name_u]/[name_f]Taly[/name_f] (tah-lee) short for [name_m]Naphtali[/name_m]/[name_m]Naftali[/name_m]. Sounds like Tolly if it’s tah-lee and not toll-ee. Biblical name. I can’t use it, my sister has claimed it.
I can only think of [name_m]Anatoly[/name_m]. It is a Russian name with Tolly as a natural nickname.
I’ve seen a movie where Tolly was a nick name for Tosland?
My cousin, [name_m]Ptolemy[/name_m], is called Tolly by our family members.
I’ve been majorly crushing on Bartolo nn Tolly, so that was my first thought! [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] nn Tolly could also work. Or Bartolomeu. Any form of [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m], really!
I also love the suggestion of [name_m]Tolliver[/name_m], and think that’s also a pretty obvious choice.
