My hubby and I are expecting our first child in october, and have decided to keep the gender a secret. We have some ideas for names, and I’ve just found the name [name]Penn[/name]. My hubby and I both really like it, but it sounds more like a nickname to us than a real name. Here’s our list, just so you can get a general idea of names we like. I don’t really know our style, so…
for boys:
[name]Max[/name]
[name]Jackson[/name]
[name]Archie[/name](not so sure about this one)
[name]Roman[/name]
[name]Beckett[/name]
[name]August[/name]
[name]Teddy/name
and for girls:
[name]Romy[/name]
[name]Maggie[/name]
[name]Luce[/name]/[name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Madeleine[/name]-[name]Maddy[/name]
[name]Eva[/name]
[name]Stella[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name]
If you could help, that would be great! Thank you so much!!!
[name]Mia[/name]
What about [name]Spencer[/name], nn [name]Penn[/name]? I think that it would fit well with your other names, especially [name]Jackson[/name]. [name]Aspen[/name] might also work, though it’s more popular for girls than for boys, which may or may not bother you… I think that [name]Penn[/name] could stand on its own, though - it’s not any more nicknamey than [name]Max[/name], [name]Romy[/name], or [name]Maggie[/name]…
I totally think [name]Penn[/name] can stand on its own too.
The word Pennington came to mind…don’t know if that’s ever been used as a first name. I think that’s [name]Ty[/name]'s last name on Extreme Makeover Home Edition.
I love the name [name]Penn[/name] so much! I always think of Pennsylvania when I hear it, but that wouldn’t make a very good name. I think [name]Penn[/name] can stand alone, though. I picture a really handsome, charming, laid back athletic but sensitive guy with this name. I looooove it!
I don’t think of [name]Penn[/name] as a nickname at all. It’s very strong, sophisticated and handsome as a stand-alone name, in my opinion.
But why don’t you pair it with a longer, more serious middle, like:
But I do love [name]Theodore[/name] nn [name]Teddy[/name]. It’s my number one boys’ name! [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Penn[/name] nn [name]Teddy[/name] would be incredibly handsome.
“The boy’s name [name]Penn[/name] \p(e)-
nn\ is of Old English origin, and the meaning of [name]Penn[/name] is “enclosure; hill”. Probably an occupational name referring to a person who lived or worked around a sheep pen. American use is due to admiration for the Quaker leader [name]William[/name] [name]Penn[/name] (18th century). The son of an influential English family, he forsook the comforts of a genteel life to found Pennsylvania (in Latin, “[name]Penn[/name]'s woods”), a haven of true religious tolerance.”
If you prefer [name]Penn[/name] as a nn, I think [name]Spencer[/name] and [name]Penelope[/name] are two unusual, sophisticated choices. For a stretch, [name]Caspian[/name] and [name]Persephone[/name] could also work, since nn do not necessarily have to derive letter-for-letter from the first name (and they are underused, gorgeous names!). [name]Penn[/name] on its own would make a great middle name as well if you decide [name]Theodore[/name] or one of your other choices suits your baby the best when he or she arrives!
Thank you so much eveyone for all your help! A lot of people said that they think [name]Penn[/name] can stand on its own, and I’m starting to see it that way too. I’ll post further updates if we make any decisions!
[name]Penn[/name] totally stands on it’s own! I think of [name]Penn[/name] Badgley from Gossip Girl. He’s extremely handsome and a good actor- not a bad association at all. His full name is [name]Penn[/name], and it suits him well! Good luck.
