I’ve been thinking about the nn [name]Rudy[/name] for a while. I love it, most probably because he’s a heroic and loveable character in one of my favourite books. Only problem being that I have a strict no-nicknames-as-full-names policy. I’m not sure I can get over the name typically being a nn for [name]Rudolf[/name] (absolutely NO!) or [name]Rudyard[/name] (absolutely absolutely NO!) to use it as a stand alone name.
Can I ask you lovely creative Nameberries to help me find a full name for the nn [name]Rudy[/name]. I’m thinking more [name]Kit[/name] for [name]Christopher[/name] than [name]Will[/name] for [name]William[/name], if you know what I mean! I’ve been considering looking into names which have some relation to the colour red (but only because I believe the name has some relation to red, correct me if I’m wrong, please!), and as yet the only ones that are jumping out at me are [name]Rufus[/name] and [name]Rowan[/name]. Any other ideas?
I’m not too good at this sort of thing, but the two names that sprang to mind were [name]Reuben[/name] and Rouven, which I guess could be made into [name]Rudy[/name] in a round about sort of way. I did a bit of research into [name]Rudey[/name] with an E and it said it is old [name]German[/name] and means famous wolf! It says it’s a variant of [name]Rudolph[/name], but it came up as a stand alone name and not a nn…
I’m in love with the name [name]Rupert[/name], I think that would qualify. I also wanted to second your idea of [name]Rufus[/name] which is a guilty pleasure of mine even though most people say it sounds like a dog’s name.
[name]Ryder[/name]? Rumor? I would even think something like [name]Riley[/name] [name]David[/name] or [name]Robert[/name] [name]Deacon[/name] (just examples) could get you to [name]Rudy[/name]. R.D. When you say RD it kinda sounds like [name]Rudy[/name]!
I’ve been thinking about this, and I’ve finally got an idea! Instead of looking for a name with “rud” in it, which is slim pickings at best, why not use a name starting with “Ru-” like say [name]Rupert[/name] or [name]Rufus[/name] and a D- middle name? Then you’d have Ru D —> roo-dee —> [name]Rudy[/name].
