Full name for Teddy

I love the nickname [name_u]Teddy[/name_u], but have trouble finding a full name I like. [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], [name_f]Theodosia[/name_f], and [name_f]Thea[/name_f] are definitely not on my list. So far I’ve found two names I really like, [name_f]Theora[/name_f] and [name_f]Theda[/name_f].

So…

  1. What do you think of [name_f]Theda[/name_f] and [name_f]Theora[/name_f]?
  2. What other names could [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] be short for? (It doesn’t have to be obvious, I imagine most named that have ed or th in them would work)

I think [name_f]Theda[/name_f] and [name_f]Theora[/name_f] are pretty. I feel like people will mistake them for [name_f]Thea[/name_f] quite often, but they’re both lovely, solid names. I prefer [name_f]Theora[/name_f], but only slight.

What about [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]?

@Katerinam I’m on the fence about [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], I like it but I’m not sure if it’s vintage and refreshing or clunky and dated. It is a character in one of my favorite books, so it’s been on my list, but I’m unsure about it

[name_f]Thaddea[/name_f]? That’s my second thought after [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] (and its variations).

[name_f]Theresa[/name_f] or [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] would work

I’m not crazy about [name_f]Theora[/name_f] or [name_f]Theda[/name_f] - the “th” sound just sounds forced to me (assuming that’s how you pronounce them).

I would use the simple [name_f]Teresa[/name_f] to nn to [name_u]Teddy[/name_u].

I really like [name_f]Theora[/name_f] and [name_f]Theda[/name_f] is nice too, and I think [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] would be a great nickname for them.

I knew a girl named [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] who went by [name_u]Teddy[/name_u], so I guess it could work.

It’s a shame you don’t like [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] or [name_f]Thea[/name_f] as I love them and they work lovely for the [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] nickname you’re after. I like [name_f]Theora[/name_f], though, but it seems like it’s missing the ‘do’ part, as in [name_u]Theo/name_ura.

Other long versions could be [name_f]Thaddea[/name_f] or possibly [name_f]Edwina[/name_f].

[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Tedra[/name_f], [name_f]Edeline[/name_f], [name_m]Edel[/name_m], [name_f]Edna[/name_f], [name_f]Eda[/name_f]?
This is a tough one. I personally like [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] on it’s own as a first name, maybe paired with something traditionally feminine in the middle spot.
Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]!

I second that [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] can be it’s own name. The first combo that I thought of was [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] could work as a longer name, but it’s a bit of the stretch.

[name_f]Teresa[/name_f] and [name_f]Thea[/name_f] are lovely names! They work well with the nickname [name_u]Teddy[/name_u].

[name_f]Theda[/name_f] is pretty and works. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Tilda[/name_f]?

You probably want a full name and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] as a nickname only, but I do happen to work with a woman whose first name is just [name_u]Teddy[/name_u], so there I’d that option.

I am expecting my third and Theodosius is a family name, we are very likely to use [name_f]Theodosia[/name_f] for a girl, nn [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] and still deliberating about the male version for a boy. I feel that I like it a bit more on a girl so I’m leaning toward that. For you, if the long formal names are too fussy for your style, I really like [name_f]Theda[/name_f] or the [name_f]Edwina[/name_f] suggestion.

[name_f]Teresa[/name_f] is great! [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] or [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] might work. [name_f]Theora[/name_f] is great as well.
