We have been using the name “[name]Leo[/name]” for our LO for a long portion of my pregnancy. My daughter (3 years old) calls him that, most people know that is what we plan to name him… But we really would like a longer first name, but can’t come up with one we like. We know all of the “usual suspects” ([name]Leopold[/name], [name]Leonardo[/name], [name]Leonidas[/name], [name]Leander[/name], [name]Leon[/name], etc.), but I was wondering if anyone had heard of anything else? I would be ok if [name]Leo[/name] appeared somewhere other than the beginning of the name.
I also considered just picking a totally diff first name and calling him [name]Leo[/name] (like [name]Lawson[/name] on [name]William[/name]), but partly feel like - what is the point, if we are going to call him [name]Leo[/name] anyway? We just like the idea of the full name seeming more “complete”.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
(Oh, and if it matters, we are currently planning on “[name]Leo[/name] [name]Andrew[/name]” .
[name]Love[/name] [name]Leo[/name]! It is so handsome. The only other thoughts I have (besides the ones you have rejected already) are [name]Elliot[/name] or [name]Leander[/name] (or [name]Leandro[/name]), which easily yield the nn [name]Leo[/name] (imo, anyway!).
Or maybe you could do something that ends in -lio? Like [name]Julio[/name], [name]Emilio[/name], [name]Aurelio[/name], [name]Benvolio[/name], etc. They’re all pretty out-there, though. I’d rather just use [name]Leo[/name] or [name]Elliot[/name]/[name]Leander[/name]/[name]Leopold[/name], personally, lol.
I ran a Nameberry Super Search for names that contain [name]Leo[/name] and the only non-obvious names that came up were [name]Achilleo[/name], [name]Cleon[/name], [name]Emileo[/name], [name]Galileo[/name], [name]Gileon[/name], [name]Mcleod[/name] and [name]Napoleon[/name]. [name]Elliot[/name] is a really good suggestion. Good luck with your name hunt.
We had the same dilemma you’re having now and considered [name]Elliot[/name], [name]Leopold[/name], and even [name]Leonard[/name] (for half a second). In the end, we decided to put [name]Leo[/name] on the birth certificate, and we couldn’t be happier with his name. It’s short yes, but sturdy, friendly, and energetic, and with a good history to boot! Good enough for Tolstoy, good enough for me!
