[name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] is pretty (although you might have some problems with people spelling it [name_f]Annelise[/name_f] or something similar).
[name_f]Annabella[/name_f], [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f], [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Adrianna[/name_f]/[name_f]Adriana[/name_f], [name_f]Viviana[/name_f], [name_f]Diana[/name_f], [name_f]Joanna[/name_f], [name_f]Juliana[/name_f]/[name_f]Julianna[/name_f], [name_f]Annika[/name_f], [name_f]Susanna[/name_f], [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f], [name_f]Tatiana[/name_f], [name_f]Giovanna[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosanna[/name_f] also come to mind.
All of the above names I believe could be nicknamed [name_f]Anna[/name_f].
[name_m]Ah[/name_m]-nah is sweet but I only see it spelled [name_f]Ana[/name_f] and An-ah and [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. I would pronounce [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] as an-ah-lees not ah-nah-leese so I wouldn’t get the nickname you wanted from it >_>
I agree with dantea - not sure what the difference is in my brain, but when I see [name_f]Anna[/name_f] I say An-ah, when I see [name_f]Ana[/name_f] I say [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-nah. So for me I would lean to the names with the [name_f]Ana[/name_f] spelling to get the proper pronunciation. I don’t have any new suggestions, just figure I’d throw my two cents in about pronunciation. And for reference, I live in [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_f]England[/name_f] and I believe that is the general consensus here.
As others said [name_f]Anna[/name_f] to me = [name_f]Anne[/name_f]-uh and [name_f]Ana[/name_f] = [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-nuh
Mainly because all the [name_f]Anna[/name_f]'s I knew went by [name_f]Anne[/name_f]-uh and the one [name_f]Ana[/name_f] I knew (who was polish) said her name [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-nuh (but still got [name_f]Anna[/name_f] all the time, so she went by that too)
I think in [name_u]America[/name_u], you’re screwed and no matter what you will get [name_f]Anna[/name_f], but at least [name_f]Ana[/name_f] looks “foreign” so it might help, it worked for me!
I think [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] is a lovely name. It’s one of my favorites. I would pronounce it [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-nah-leese. I knew a little girl named Annalisia who went by [name_f]Anna[/name_f], pronounced [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-na. She loved her name and got a lot of positive feedback about it.
[name_f]My[/name_f] daughter has a friend named [name_f]Annika[/name_f] (ah-nick-uh) and she goes by [name_f]Ana[/name_f]/[name_f]Anna[/name_f] (ah-nuh) 90% of the time. Beautiful name!
I know [name_f]Ana[/name_f] makes people question the pronunciation, but where I live, while most people assume it’s anne-ah, they also know that it could be ah-na. I much prefer this spelling.
I kinda like [name_f]Joanna[/name_f], but wouldn’t most people nickname her [name_u]Jo[/name_u]?
None of these names are guaranteed to get her called [name_f]Anna[/name_f] unless you name her [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. People will call her by various nicknames that they see in the name. The more you correct them, the easier it is for people to remember to call her [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. And this is no guarantee that she will want to be [name_f]Anna[/name_f] and not [name_u]Jo[/name_u] or Joa or [name_u]Jojo[/name_u] or whatever when she gets old enough to decide.
Point being, pick one you love and use [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. Other people will too with some persistence.
[name_f]Annalise[/name_f] would definitely work with the nickname [name_f]Anna[/name_f]! Some other ones that will work…
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Annalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Adrianna[/name_f]/[name_f]Adriana[/name_f]
[name_f]Brianna[/name_f]
[name_f]Liana[/name_f]
[name_f]Kiana[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariana[/name_f]
[name_f]Christiana[/name_f]
I also like [name_f]Anna[/name_f] as a standalone name.
