My husband and I both love the name [name_f]Tess[/name_f], but want it to be a nickname. [name_f]Theresa[/name_f] is out of the question as it’s his dad’s current girlfriend - his mom would murder us both. I don’t like the name Contessa one bit either. I’ve thought of using [name_f]Esther[/name_f], but I know my husband dated an [name_f]Esther[/name_f] when he was younger and he may not be open to that one, although I don’t mind one bit.
Any ideas of “full” names that could use [name_f]Tess[/name_f]/[name_f]Tessa[/name_f] as a nickname?
I think that [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] is full name-ish enough. I’m even okay w/[name_f]Tess[/name_f] as a full name, because it’s such a great name that you wouldn’t want a full name that you don’t love as much just for the sake of using a full name. Other than that, maybe [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]?
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tess[/name_f] would be my pick
[name_f]Thessaly[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tess[/name_f]
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u] nn [name_f]Tess[/name_f]
[name_f]Themis[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tess[/name_f]
T. S. name + middle initials
[name_f]Thordis[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tess[/name_f]
[name_f]Thisbe[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tess[/name_f]
Although, isn’t [name_f]Tess[/name_f] too similar to [name_f]Theresa[/name_f]? In my book [name_f]Tess[/name_f] would be no go as much as [name_f]Theresa[/name_f].
I always loved [name_f]Thessaly[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tess[/name_f]. There’s also [name_f]Thalassa[/name_f] which is a bit more fussy but still lovey.
[name_f]Estella[/name_f] might work? Or [name_f]Esther[/name_f]?
I think just [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] is for sure ‘enough of a name’ w [name_f]Tess[/name_f] as a short form. But at that point, why not use just [name_f]Tess[/name_f]?
A name that I adore that could work, that hasn’t yet been mentioned, is the sweet little Tesni, which is a Welsh name meaning ‘warmth from the sun’. A beautiful name with a beautiful meaning.
I understand wanting a longer name rather than just [name_f]Tess[/name_f]. But I think just [name_f]Tess[/name_f] is so beautiful and lovely - I know 2 [name_f]Tess[/name_f]'s and they wear it wonderfully! I also think it works because it doesn’t sound overly nickname-y or baby-ish to me, the way that some nickname-names do. ie. nn Savvy - doesn’t work as a full name for me, because it’s too nickname-ish and sounds young. [name_f]Jane[/name_f] (same length as [name_f]Tess[/name_f]!) - works because it doesn’t sound like the short form of another name and also works for all ages.
If you insist on a longer version, what about even [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] as the long name and [name_f]Tess[/name_f] as the nickname?
Finally, some other suggestions:
[name_f]Teresa[/name_f] - maybe spelled this way would be ok?
[name_f]Therese[/name_f] - the french version
[name_f]Thessaly[/name_f] - I just don’t think it’s as pretty as simple [name_f]Tess[/name_f].
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f] - though this is a huge stretch and Esie, [name_f]Estie[/name_f], [name_f]Elle[/name_f], Tellie etc. are all more intuitive.
I do love [name_f]Tess[/name_f] both on its own and for a nn. Some of my favourite possiblilites have already been mentioned: [name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Thomasin[/name_f], [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f], [name_f]Thessaly[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_u]Artemis[/name_u].
Some of these are fairly ‘out there’ kind of names, but adding anyway:
I have a fairly broad view of nicknames and full names so would even use [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] with [name_f]Tess[/name_f] though that may be a step too far for some.
