Is the name [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] too similar to [name_m]Idris[/name_m] for them to be siblings? I’ve been crushing on the name [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] lately and not sure if I should keep [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] in my back pocket for a future baby or if it could be an acceptable nn for my son [name_m]Idris[/name_m] (which is pronounced how it looks, Id-ris)? Or maybe neither option is appropriate? Interested in your thoughts…
[name_m]Idris[/name_m] and [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] are too close to me, sorry, but i do think it could be a nickname
I think they are too close unfortunately. I like [name_u]Reese[/name_u] as a nn for [name_f]Iris[/name_f], so I don’t see why [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] for [name_m]Idris[/name_m] wouldn’t work! You could also use [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] as a middle name for a future child.
I’d say it’s fine as a sibling name. They do share a few letters but I think they sound different enough that they wouldn’t be confused with each other.
I think if a name could possibly be used as a nickname for an existing child, it’s too close. Ris / [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] isn’t the most intuitive nickname with the Welsh pronunciation of [name_m]Idris[/name_m] but I do think it would be fine.
