Ughhh this is gonna be long because I don’t know how to briefly describe this and I’m new, so sorry and thank you in advance!
Okay so, in my story (kinda a fantasy/sci-fi blend) there are elves, valkyrie, jinn and humans as the four species. For the elf names I made a list of names with germanic roots that were elf-ey sounding (Ellery, Phobus, Aldabella, etc…), for the jinn I found names that have arabic roots (Zayyan, Yavuz, Naylaa, etc…) and for the valkyrie I found some old norse names (Asta, Sylvie, Tove, etc…) but I’m completely stumped on where to pull the human names from.
For the other species I took a mythical creature and gave them names from where the myth originated, but that uhh obviously won’t work for the humans. The story takes place hundreds of years in the future where the other species are aliens who have come to earth for refuge where there are much less people as a large amount of the population has died out and there is now (sorta) room for the other species. The aesthetic for the humans is cyberpunk (cybernetic attachments, live in tandem with technology, everyone is kinda squished into big cities together to avoid the unlivable parts of earth) but since the humans are … human it’s not like I can look into where their mythology started from like the rest.
I was thinking shorter more modern names but to be honest I’m not totally sure what that means. The one name I’m partial to is Nyx and that’s just cause it sounds badass. Help?
Yes, I see your problem.
I agree that [name_f]Nyx[/name_f] is a super cool name. Maybe you can build your pattern from there?
Coming from [name_f]Nyx[/name_f] a pattern could be…
- any existing name with 2-3 letters
- names that give high points on Scrabble (have q, x, y, z)
- [name_f]Nyx[/name_f] could be a twist on Nox, the latin word for night, so the pattern could be “wordnames with shifted sounds”
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] that helped! I would love to hear what you will decide on eventually.
edit:
human it’s not like I can look into where their mythology started from like the rest.
reading this again, I thought: Most people today belong to an Abrahamic religion, and this would make Adam and Eve the mythologic origin. So, hebrew names it is.
