Gage, for a girl

I have only ever met 2 people named [name_m]Gage[/name_m], one boy and one girl. I always thought of it as a unisex name. I always liked the name a lot on both genders. But, when I searched for it, it’s a boy’s name. If you Google Gaga, almost every site lists it only as a boy’s name. What do you think?

Lots of previously only boy names have become unisex ([name_u]Dexter[/name_u] for example) so what do you think?

I don’t like it in either case. [name_u]Sage[/name_u] is nice, though.

[name_u]Dexter[/name_u] is unisex? I have totally missed this somehow.

I actually don’t mind unisex names but [name_m]Gage[/name_m] is all boy to me.

I never heard it on a girl or even considered for a girls name, but I do love me some boy on girl names. I think it sounds fine feminine.

[name_m]Gage[/name_m] is (and [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] for that matter) all boy for me. I don’t see it (nor desire to see it) on a girl at all. It feels so incredibly heavy and bland in sound and I don’t find it to be appealing at all, in general, not just in relation to a girl. Like someone else mentioned, [name_u]Sage[/name_u] is nice and would be a nice alternative that I actually would consider unisex, but [name_m]Gage[/name_m]…nah, leave it to the boys I say.

[name_u]Dexter[/name_u] is not unisex. It is a boy’s name on a girl. [name_m]Gage[/name_m] is also a boy’s name on a girl. Try [name_u]Sage[/name_u] or [name_f]Paige[/name_f] instead.

[name_m]Gage[/name_m] is simply worn out. I love some of the names in your signature esp Emberlyn [name_f]Eileen[/name_f]!

I don’t like it at all, reminds me of ear piercings!

What she said.

I find [name_m]Gage[/name_m] to be a unappealing name (personally it reminds me of gag) so I don’t like it on either gender, sorry. With that being said, I think the gender rules have been bent so much recently in the naming world ([name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] and [name_u]James[/name_u] on girls) that at this point I think anything goes really.

I don’t like it as a name - it makes me think of measuring things (“gauging”) and of piercings. To me it sounds very cold and detached. I’ve never seen it on a girl, and only once or twice on boys in real life. I would vastly prefer [name_u]Sage[/name_u] or [name_f]Paige[/name_f] too.
I don’t generally mind truly unisex names, but [name_m]Gage[/name_m] seems like a boy name on a girl. Since you have met a girl named [name_m]Gage[/name_m] I can’t say it’s totally out of the question, I just really don’t like it.
