We have narrowed our choices down to four but it’s looking more like it’s going to be between two- the more popular [name]Gavin[/name] or less well-known [name]Ronan[/name] (husband likes the spelling [name]Ronin[/name] because of the Japanese meaning but I prefer the an spelling because it’s Irish and we have an Irish last name). Our other two names are [name]Hunter[/name] (I’m not really into it) and [name]Maxwell[/name] (my favorite but husband is not very into it). Middle name might be [name]Lee[/name] because it’s a family name but last night husband said he would consider [name]Maxwell[/name] for a middle. I’m still working on him for [name]Maxwell[/name] as a FN but I don’t want to push him to something he doesn’t like.
What do you think - [name]Gavin[/name] or [name]Ronan[/name]? Also open to other suggestions for a middle.
I’ll vote for [name]Ronan[/name] [name]Maxwell[/name] [name]Lee[/name]. I find [name]Ronan[/name] so much more interesting than [name]Gavin[/name]. The only issue with only one mn of [name]Lee[/name] is that the names will blend into each other (Ronanlee, Gavinlee). I’m not crazy about [name]Hunter[/name].
I thought about doing both middle names but I’m not crazy about having two middles. It just seems like too much.
I am starting to really like [name]Ronan[/name] as well but I’ve heard that people have to ask twice what the name is when hearing it, because they haven’t heard it, and they often mistake it for [name]Roman[/name] or [name]Rowan[/name]. I have a name that people often mispronounce and it’s very annoying.
I prefer [name]Gavin[/name], but do worry that it will become dated much like [name]Kevin[/name]. For the name [name]Ronan[/name] I think I would go with the -an ending. I do love [name]Gavin[/name] though! And I like [name]Gavin[/name] [name]Maxwell[/name].
I like [name]Ronan[/name] a lot more than [name]Gavin[/name]. I’ve known a lot of [name]Gavin[/name]'s and they’re all awful children. [name]Ronan[/name] is just gorgeous!
I like [name]Ronan[/name] and [name]Gavin[/name] equally. I would discuss with your husband if the second name might be potentially used for a future son. If yes you could argue that [name]Ronan[/name] would be a preferable spelling to [name]Ronin[/name] because otherwise both [name]Ronin[/name] and [name]Gavin[/name] would share the -in spelling.
I actually rather prefer [name]Gavin[/name] [name]Maxwell[/name] or [name]Ronan[/name] [name]Maxwell[/name] to [name]Maxwell[/name] [name]Ronan[/name] or even [name]Maxwell[/name] [name]Gavin[/name]. The first two seem much more refreshing.
I prefer [name]Ronan[/name] by a mile. It’s very pretty, it’s very cool, and it stands out from the crowd (in a good way).
[name]Gavin[/name] in the UK is a middle-aged man who works as a clerk, or maybe services your car. It’s like “[name]Wayne[/name]” here. I don’t think the usual nickname, Gav, is very nice-sounding either.
[name]Ronan[/name] [name]Maxwell[/name] is a standout, all-around winner of a name. [name]Ronan[/name] [name]Maxwell[/name] could be a valedictorian, a football star, an actor, a nurse. Whatever he wants. But people will remember his name and smile when they hear it.
Hmmm… well it’s a good thing we don’t live in the UK! I have read on here that it’s a “redneck” name in the UK and Australia but it doesn’t bring up that image at all to me. In fact it reminds me more of the ex-mayor of San [name]Francisco[/name] (where we live), who is pretty hot.
I do agree that [name]Ronan[/name] [name]Maxwell[/name] is a kick-ass name. I’m just afraid of having to say it several times for people to not confuse it with [name]Roman[/name] or [name]Rolland[/name], etc.
[name]Ronan[/name] or [name]Gavin[/name]. If you want less popular then I would go with [name]Ronan[/name]. All your names on your list are nice though so you can’t lose either way!
I love [name]Ronin[/name] [name]Lee[/name]. I love the samurai flavor, and the fact that both names have an [name]East[/name]/[name]West[/name] thing going on.
[name]Ronan[/name] [name]Maxwell[/name] is the way to go! It’s a great name, and like blade said, an all-around winner. I don’t think he’ll live his whole life having to repeat his name, as it’s gained some notoriety. Neither do I think it will be incredibly dated. I know you didn’t ask for more name suggestions, but I can’t help myself. I think [name]Nolan[/name] [name]Maxwell[/name] would probably get less confusion, and sounds great together.
I personally wouldn’t use [name]Gavin[/name], even if I had to come up with a completely new name. [name]Love[/name] the sound, but at least where I live, it seems to have become the number one name for trashy hicks and ridiculously young undwed mothers to name their babies. It’s really unfortunate, since it’s such a nice name. That said, it may have a very different vibe where you live, in which case GO FOR IT if you love it. [name]Just[/name] don’t move to [name]Missouri[/name], if you do
I personally prefer the [name]Ronan[/name] spelling too. But, [name]Ronin[/name] isn’t bad, it’s not like it’s a made up name or creative spelling. Is [name]Lee[/name] a family name from his side or yours? If it’s from his, so that you both have a compromise and something that was your pick, I’d go with “[name]Ronan[/name] [name]Lee[/name]” or “[name]Ronin[/name] [name]Maxwell[/name]”.
If [name]Lee[/name] and [name]Maxwell[/name] both have come from you, I’d probably be more likely to go with [name]Ronin[/name], if that’s what he Really wanted. Or encourage him to him to come up with a mn and go with your spelling of [name]Ronan[/name].
I love [name]Ronan[/name] and [name]Ronin[/name]. [name]Gavin[/name] is already dated and clunky in [name]Scotland[/name], so I dislike it. [name]Hunter[/name] is cool, but not as cool as [name]Ronin[/name].
