Gaze into your crystal ball...

Predictions! We’ve all got 'em. The idea is that each poster will make predictions about the future of a name identified by the previous poster.

So, for instance, if the pp listed “[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f],” the respondent might say something like, “Given [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]'s swiftly-increasing popularity, vintage sound, cute nickname options, and trendy -line ending, I predict that this name could end up in the Top 50 by 2020. However, [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] has risen so rapidly that I expect this name will quickly fall after reaching peak popularity. It could someday feel as dated as [name_u]Madison[/name_u].”

Then the respondent will list a name they’re interested in hearing the next poster’s predictions about.

I’ll throw out a name to start the thread off:

What is the future of [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]?

[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] - will grow in popularity

[name_f]Elaine[/name_f]

[name_f]Elaine[/name_f] has been pretty stagnant in recent years, but I think with the resurgence of vintage names, she’ll see a bit of an increase, though I doubt it’ll ever reach the previous peak of #48 (back in 1938) but I could see [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] hovering around the 200-500 mark, as opposed to the 700s.

[name_u]Brooke[/name_u] (g) ?

[name_u]Brooke[/name_u] (and sister [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u]) having been fairly popular from the late nineties through recent years will start to decline by the time 2016’s little [name_m]Brookes[/name_m] are tweens. I don’t think it will leave the top 1000 any time in the near future, but I do think it will have to give way to fresher imports.

[name_f]Emma[/name_f]?

[name_f]Emma[/name_f] will remain popular for quite awhile, top 50 or 100 at least if not top 10. It will be the kind of name that doesn’t feel fresh but still gets enough use that it doesn’t feel outdated. Like [name_f]Emily[/name_f] or [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] now. It has the kind of simple, classic, feminine sound that tends to have more staying power.

[name_f]Isobel[/name_f]?
