I’ve been getting interested in gem names and feeling inspired by the 2019 trend predictions, am trying to consider which ones could possibly work for boys. Also including metals, minerals, and anything that could be remotely used in jewelry.
[name_f]Agate[/name_f] -Sounds on the harsher side
Bronze -Strong despite its allusion to third place
Chalcedony -[name_u]Cal[/name_u] nickname option
[name_f]Copper[/name_f] -[name_f]Pleasant[/name_f] sound but with police connotations
[name_f]Coral[/name_f] -A little pink but nice ocean reference
[name_f]Emerald[/name_f] -ald ending reminiscent of stuffier male names, such as [name_m]Reginald[/name_m]
Fossil -If his nursery is gonna be dino themed…
[name_f]Garnet[/name_f] -There’s just something masculine about this stone
Geode -Modern way to honor a [name_m]George[/name_m]
[name_m]Gold[/name_m] -If [name_m]King[/name_m] is useable
[name_m]Granite[/name_m] -Similar to [name_m]Grant[/name_m] but maybe on your countertops
[name_f]Jade[/name_f] -Similar to [name_u]Cade[/name_u] and [name_u]Jace[/name_u] despite its feminine use
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] -Proven sturdy name
Jem -“To Kill a Mockingbird” reference, simple and handsome
[name_u]Jet[/name_u] -Short and slick
Lazuli -Almost a softer [name_m]Lazarus[/name_m]
Malachite -[name_m]Just[/name_m] a slight change up from biblical [name_m]Malachi[/name_m]
[name_u]Mica[/name_u] -Alternative to [name_u]Micah[/name_u] for a nature reference
Obsidian -Brooding with popular -ian ending
[name_u]Onyx[/name_u] -[name_m]Just[/name_m] cool with that X ending
[name_f]Peridot[/name_f] -Easy [name_u]Perry[/name_u] nickname with trendy O ending
[name_m]Quartz[/name_m] -Sounds sharp with trendy Q and Z
[name_f]Sapphire[/name_f] -It’s blue and “fire” makes it almost intimidating
[name_u]Shell[/name_u] -Worked for Silverstein
[name_u]Silver[/name_u] -Sleek with cowboy style and popular -er ending
[name_m]Stone[/name_m] -Cool sound if you can get over drug conota
[name_f]Topaz[/name_f] -Not “girly” with cool Z ending
[name_f]Turquoise[/name_f] -Western/southwestern jewelry gives way to hippie cowboy vibe
Xaxim -If Fossil is just too literal
Zircon -Strong sound, never used for girls, hey it’s Z again
I think some of these could actually make a cool unusual first name, if not at least in the middle. Which ones do you like?
I actually have [name_f]Peridot[/name_f], [name_f]Jade[/name_f], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_f]Emeraude[/name_f] ([name_m]French[/name_m] version of [name_f]Emerald[/name_f]) on my list! [name_f]Peridot[/name_f] is a first name on my list but the other three are middles.
I really like:
[name_f]Garnet[/name_f]
[name_f]Copper[/name_f]
[name_m]Stone[/name_m] (middle)
[name_f]Topaz[/name_f]
Lazuli- is a really cool name but I don’t think I would actually use it
I like [name_f]Beryl[/name_f], [name_f]Garnet[/name_f], [name_f]Jade[/name_f], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_u]Jet[/name_u], [name_u]Mica[/name_u], and [name_u]Onyx[/name_u]. [name_u]Jet[/name_u], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] and [name_u]Mica[/name_u] are the most promising first name options.
I like [name_f]Copper[/name_f], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_u]Jem[/name_u], [name_u]Mica[/name_u] and [name_u]Silver[/name_u] best. [name_u]Jem[/name_u] is a huge favourite of mine, actually!
I rather like Obsidian too, although it might only work as a fictional villain name!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Garnet[/name_f], Geode, [name_u]Onyx[/name_u], [name_f]Peridot[/name_f], [name_m]Quartz[/name_m] and Xaxim “[name_m]Zack[/name_m]” (although I think the pronunciation here is tricky)
Would add [name_u]Cobalt[/name_u] “[name_m]Coby[/name_m]” as a contender!
@mj21 Agreed about Lazuli. It’s very cool but perhaps too much so, it’s a lot of name to pull off.
@babies123456 That’s great you know a [name_f]Garnet[/name_f]. I’ve been crushing on this, especially for a [name_u]January[/name_u] boy. It’s very accessible.
@katinka I’m a huge [name_u]Jem[/name_u] fan as well. Obsidian may be bordering on too bad*** but I think in the middle spot it could balance a softer first name nicely.
@swordfish Ahh how did I miss [name_u]Cobalt[/name_u]! I think it’s a super bold yet usable choice.
None of them are suitable for names, except maybe [name_m]Jasper[/name_m].
I named my bike [name_f]Copper[/name_f] when I was in [name_m]Jr[/name_m]. High.
Girls have been named [name_f]Coral[/name_f], [name_f]Jade[/name_f] and [name_f]Sapphire[/name_f]. [name_u]Shel[/name_u] Silverstien was not “[name_u]Shell[/name_u]”, his actual name was [name_u]Sheldon[/name_u].
