We’re pregnant with a baby girl and need to come up with a name for [name_m]Max[/name_m] and Georgia’s little sister!
[name_f][/name_f]
I really like [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] … but I’ve never met one and can’t decide if it’s cute with [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] or too matchy. Also, will she end up saying “it’s like [name_f]Emma[/name_f] with a G her whole life? What are your thoughts on the name?
First of all, love that you’re considering using the name Gemma…I’ve always loved my name, and love meeting other people who share it!
[name_f][/name_f]
I’ve never had to say ‘it’s like [name_f]Emma[/name_f] with a G’ before, however if the person I’m telling it to needs to spell it (e.g. at a cafe or something), I will generally spell it immediately after saying the name. “Gemma, G-E-double M-A.” (I get [name_f]Jemma[/name_f] a lot!)
[name_f][/name_f]
On it being too matchy with [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] – I’ve met siblings named [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] (with a couple of siblings in between, tbf) and never thought about them being too matchy-matchy. But as I think I’ve mentioned before, my siblings share some names that are fairly similar, so maybe I’ve become used to a bit of matchiness
[name_f][/name_f]
Overall, I love the sibset of [name_m]Max[/name_m], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], and [name_f]Gemma[/name_f]!
Congratulations on baby, and welcome back to Nameberry! [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Max[/name_m] and [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] are a lovely pair, and I think [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] pairs perfectly with them. [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] has stayed pretty steady around the 200th name spot in the US for the last 5-8 years, so I wouldn’t be too concerned about the pronunciation or spelling; it seems pretty straightforward to me, but I do suppose it could be misheard as [name_f]Jenna[/name_f] if people aren’t paying attention. [name_f][/name_f] I would love to meet a little [name_f]Gemma[/name_f], it’s such an underrated name!
Echoing @GU1[name_f][/name_f] it is so common that siblings share similar sounding names. Personally I think [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] is not too similar to [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], you may just want to consider whether you’ll trip over the names in busy moments of parenting or not. (As I always say, 3 of my sisters have two syllable names beginning with C and ending in the ‘ee’ sound and it didn’t cause any problems at all. Two of the names are [name_f]Courteney[/name_f] and [name_f]Cassie[/name_f], for reference.)
[name_f][/name_f]
I love [name_m]Max[/name_m], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] together, so warm and vibrant!
[name_f][/name_f]
To me, [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] is an sparkly (the gem association?) and wholesome. I love the nn option [name_f]Gem[/name_f].
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f] is warm and sweet, solid and familiar, but not one you hear every day [name_f][/name_f]- or rather, I’ve yet to meet a little [name_f]Gemma[/name_f], only ones in their teens and up!
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] do match due to the initials, but I think they sound different enough otherwise for them to work just fine. It might feel a bit more deliberate if Max’s name also started with a G or ‘J’ sound, but I think they’re usuable.
[name_f][/name_f][name_f][/name_f]
I don’t think so! [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] is well established as a name and most will know it! Sure, a few people might mishear them in a noisy setting, but that can happen with any name
Congratulations! We are also considering [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] for our daughter’s name! It’s made it to our top 2 list. I love it, it’s unique but still familiar. I also think [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] are really cute together [name_f][/name_f]- both G’s so that match in that way but I don’t feel like they’re too matchy matchy at all!
