Gemma? Yay or Nay

What do the Berries think of the girl’s name [name_f]Gemma[/name_f]?
Old fashioned? Out of date? Cute? Simple?

Thanks!

Yay! So cute and uncommon. What a gem! (Pun not intended )

Not my style and I don’t really like it but it’s still nice

It’s an objectively great name, but for some reason I simply dislike it’s sound. Which is odd since I love Jemima and I think Gem and Jem are super cute nns, but here we are!
I do think Gemma is old fashioned and simple in a good way

I love the vintage, slightly bookish feel. To me, it’s a very elegant and pretty name.

I get that vibe from it to! But also like a 80’s vibe for some reason?

For sure! I get what you’re saying. I’m conflicted on it to! I think it’s the [name_f]Emma[/name_f] part for me. I feel like it’s [name_f]Emma[/name_f] with a G… But it’s still cute as it is at the same time 🤷😅

I don’t know anyone with the name! So must not be too popular in last 10 years at least I’m guessing

I love it!

where i live (uk) gemma is pretty popular, i know at least 5.

it’s not a favourite of mine as i think it sounds a bit heavy. i slightly prefer the jemma spelling though.

It’s a perfectly nice name I just know of / meet so many adult Gemma’s it doesn’t feel fresh to me. But I also can’t remember the last baby / small child I met called [name_f]Gemma[/name_f], so it’s beginning to feel a bit dated here (in the UK). if that’s not the case where you are then go for it! It’s very pretty.

Thank you for your response! I was trying to look for where the name originated from, and somewhere on googled noted that the name [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] because popular in the UK around 2008 or something. I prefer less popular names if I can help it

Yes! I was just noting that I saw in the year ,2008 or so it was quite popular in the UK but has since fizzled out. I love in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] and do not know a single [name_f]Gemma[/name_f]. But I am truly looking for a unique name as my other children have more unique names I guess :relaxed: thank you for your response! I really appreciate it.

I love [name_f]Gemma[/name_f]. It has not been popular around me, and I don’t believe I’ve ever met a [name_f]Gemma[/name_f]. I love its sounds, and the fact that it’s fairly short and straightforward, but packs a punch! I prefer the [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] spelling. I also like its long history and connection with poet [name_m]Dante[/name_m].

Definetly, I think it’s a very sweet name that transitions well from baby-child-adult. I did read up on the history, which I loved.

However I do wonder if its (un-) popularity will rise in [name_u]North[/name_u] American anytime soon.

[name_f]Gemma[/name_f] is pretty sweet! Soft and versatile
