Gender neutral form of August?

Ok, I know august is technically unisex, but it’s almost always used for boys. I’ve thought of [name_u]Augustine[/name_u], any other ideas?

I’d argue [name_u]Augustine[/name_u] is more masculine than August!!

How about [name_u]Auguste[/name_u]?

Really? The data I’ve looked at would argue otherwise. Either way, opinions

That really surprises me! I’ve never heard of [name_u]Augustine[/name_u] being used for a girl, but thank you for educating me on that!!

I really like [name_u]Augustine[/name_u]. I’ll say [name_u]Austin[/name_u] and [name_u]Augie[/name_u], but this is a hard question!

[name_u]Auguste[/name_u] is masculine in [name_u]French[/name_u] and feminine in [name_m]German[/name_m]. It’s pronounced differently in both languages but it might work for you!

Austin/Austen is derived from [name_u]Augustine[/name_u] and is unisex. (especially [name_u]Austen[/name_u] imo)

I really love [name_u]August[/name_u] for a girl too, despite what the stats say (and even [name_u]Gus[/name_u] is a girl GP for me!)

[name_f]Augusta[/name_f]?

I’m not sure you’ll get much more neutral than [name_u]August[/name_u] itself! I see [name_u]Augustine[/name_u] as neutral too.

I wouldn’t call [name_u]August[/name_u] unisex at all, unlike [name_u]Augustine[/name_u], which is feminine in [name_u]French[/name_u]. [name_u]Austen[/name_u], maybe? It’s originally derived from [name_u]Augustine[/name_u].

What about [name_f]Augusta[/name_f]?

[name_u]August[/name_u] is one of the very few names I have on both my lists for a boy or girl. I prefer it for a girl though, honestly.

[name_u]Augustine[/name_u] reads all girl to me.

I didn’t think of [name_u]Austin[/name_u]! Too southern for my taste tho

In the USA it’s mainly masculine but in other Europe it’s completely feminine

When I was trying to find a name if I had a boy, I got really excited about [name_u]Augustine[/name_u], but everyone around me thought I was adding it to my girls name list  [name_m]Even[/name_m] my mom, who was raised Catholic, and [name_u]Saint[/name_u] [name_u]Augustine[/name_u] is male! :woman_shrugging:

So [name_u]Augustine[/name_u] feels very gender neutral to me.

I really liked [name_m]Augustin[/name_m] or [name_m]Augusten[/name_m], and ultimately added [name_m]Augusten[/name_m] to my boys name list. Not sure if those can be gender neutral, but thought I’d add them to the discussion.

[name_u]Augustine[/name_u] where I lived if I met one (very rare here though, but not unprobably) I would assume a girl. (Europe)

If you are in an [name_f]English[/name_f] speaking country (most probably since this is an [name_f]English[/name_f] forum) no idea of how it is perceived. But I know [name_u]August[/name_u] is gender neutral there (which still kinds of surprises me, since for me it has such a masculine sound and cannot be less than masculine than [name_u]Edward[/name_u] for you!) but maybe you will like [name_u]Auguste[/name_u]. It is masculine in [name_u]French[/name_u] and femenine in [name_m]German[/name_m] :green_heart:

Maybe I missed something, but can someone explain me what they see of neutral in August? It has a very masculine sound and a lot of masculine namesakes, so to me, it is like Edward, Otto, Marcus. It is actually one of the most masculine names I could think of right now, so if someone could sell this on me, I might get it. Where I live would be certainly masculine haha.

Well, to me, it’s a month so fair game as far as gender is concerned - it definitely leans masc (like April leans fem) but it wouldn’t surprise me on a girl especially as a middle name.

What I meant above was really that most ‘additions’ to the name like Auguste, Augusta, Augustine, make it seem less neutral and more fem leaning to me. ‘Just August’ feels the most neutral of the bunch imho. But that’s very personal and I can see from the other replies that people have different vibes for all these variants! I’m actually loving the suggestion of Austen!

Augusta in my country. August is a vintage vibes, grandpa name. As masculine as it could be here (EU).
Edited: I read ‘Feminine form from August’ somehow! I guess August. Not in my country, but maybe in other countries.

Like @persephonescrown said, I don’t think you can really get more gender neutral than [name_u]August[/name_u]. If you did want something else, [name_u]Augustine[/name_u] would be my pick
