I’m wondering if [name_u]Dana[/name_u] is seen as more male or female these days?
It sounds feminine to me.
I absolutely adore [name_u]Dana[/name_u] for a boy(cheeky, curly brown hair with green eyes to be exact :)), but it’s definitely seen more as a feminine name.
Well, as a massive X-Files fan, obviously [name_u]Dana[/name_u] is feminine to me.
I prefer it for a female.
The only [name_u]Dana[/name_u] I’ve heard of is [name_u]Dana[/name_u] White - President of the UFC. He sure is masculine, but whenever I see him on TV, and his name pops up, I always think, “Hmmm… He has a girls’ name”…
In theory I know it’s unisex, but this one is all girl for me.
I recognize it as unisex, but it still feels feminine to me.
I think most would see it as feminine, but I prefer for a boy
I have known both male and female Danas, and the name suited them both quite well.
The only people I know with this name are male, but it does feel soft.
I know that [name_u]Dana[/name_u] is unisex but it is all girl to me. I have known several female Danas and never met a male one. I also watched X-Files.
I know of people of both genders with the name, but I know no one personally of either gender with the name. I think of:
[name_u]Dana[/name_u] Carvey (male)
[name_u]Dana[/name_u] Elcar (male)
[name_u]Dana[/name_u] [name_u]Delany[/name_u] (female)
[name_u]Dana[/name_u] [name_m]Scully[/name_m] (female)
So split down the middle, I guess.
Definitely female
[name_f]My[/name_f] grandfather, father’s, and brother’s middle names are all [name_u]Dana[/name_u], but I also have a little sister named [name_u]Dana[/name_u] who is named after them.
I think it can go both ways.
[name_f]My[/name_f] immediate association is it being for a girl, but I think it could work on a boy.
[name_u]Dana[/name_u] is firmly in the female camp for me.
To me it is a truly a unisex name. One of the few names that I see and don’t automatically assign a gender to in my head, I’d have to use middles or actually know the person.
Definitely female to me.
I’ve only ever known male Danas so I didn’t even know [name_u]Dana[/name_u] was a “female” name until a few years ago. I still see it as 100% male because of the guys I know actually named it.
