We really like the name [name]Geni[/name]èvre which is the French word for juniper or juniper berry. We came across the name [name]Genevie[/name] which seems related to [name]Genevieve[/name] or [name]Geni[/name]èvre. It may be easier to pronounce and write for English speakers. [name]How[/name] is [name]Genevie[/name] pronounced, have you ever seen it used as a girls name, what do you think its origin is? Thank you!

I’ve only ever seen it used once, on a hamster, being pronounced [name]JEN[/name]-uh-vee. I think it’s cute, but as divedeep said it just looks like an incomplete [name]Genevieve[/name]. I’d say go for [name]Genevieve[/name], but I’m biased! [name]Geni[/name]èvre is interesting though, never heard of it. [name]How[/name] are you pronouncing it?
I like [name]Genevie[/name] better. To most it does look like an incomplete form of [name]Genevieve[/name], but I think it’s short and sweet and lovely, and I’ve grown to love it so much because I see it so much because of @genevie’s username. I love it. I think [name]Genevie[/name] is a bit more usable than Genievre–I think non-French speakers would be very confused as to its pronunciation… I took French for two years, and I’m not even sure how to say it… and I doubt it would be said in English with as much charm as it would be in French! I do like the idea Genievre, but I don’t think it would work well outside of [name]France[/name] or any other French-speaking country.

Your username is actually the second time I have seen and what prompted me to post this! I was hoping you would let me know how you pronounce it. I was thinking [name]JEN[/name]-uh-vee as you said or [name]ZHEN[/name]-uh-vee with the more French sound.
[name]Geni[/name]èvre is pronounced [name]ZHEN[/name]-ev-ruh–according to forvo pronunciations.
If you like Genievre, I would spell it [name]Genevra[/name]. Still may pose spelling and reading challenges but less than Genievre (I don’t have the accent on my computer). [name]May[/name] have a different etymology (but may not?), but looks complete, and [name]Genevie[/name] is probably a different origin too? I’d do [name]Genevra[/name], nn [name]Genevie[/name].
Oh, awesome Well yes, I pronounce it [name]JEN[/name]-uh-vee, as in a diminutive of [name]Genevieve[/name] But I like it with the French pronunciation too. As much as I like it, I still see it as “[name]Genevieve[/name] without the ‘ve’” rather than just “[name]Genevie[/name]”.
[name]Geni[/name]èvre is lovely, but I don’t think it would have the same charm in an English-speaking country. In an English-speaking country I’d probably go with [name]Genevra[/name] nn [name]Genevie[/name], as jesba said
I would say [name]Genevie[/name] or [name]Genevieve[/name]. Although to be honest she’s probably get called [name]Genevieve[/name] when the teacher calls roll. They don’t look too hard and will quickly assume. You could always go with the English version: [name]Ginevra[/name]. The French [name]Geni[/name]èvre is gonna be way too much for English speakers, even though it is quite pretty.
