Genevieve and Gwendolyn

My husband and I really like the name [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f], but I am concerned it looks too similar to sister’s name [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]. We call [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] “[name_f]Eve[/name_f]” for short not “[name_f]Gen[/name_f]”, but most of the time use her full name.

Thoughts?

There’s danger of [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] feeling left out… it’s a tough call.

If you’re thinking it now, others will definitely think it later. I’d say the reason you both like it is because it’s similar to your other daughter. Are there any other names you both like? It seems like you other elegant, girly names. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Nathalie[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] or [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]?

I have to say, it does look very similar, and if your older daughter has a different initial to both of the younger two there is a chance she’ll feel left out. I have a friend called [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] who has three sisters called [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] and [name_f]Roberta[/name_f]-she always brings up the initial thing, so it is something to really think about!

If [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] is the only name you REALLY like, I say go for it. Most people don’t care if sibsets are “perfect”. If you have other names you also really like… I would think about it for a while…
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] are more of the same style, leaving [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] feeling like the odd one.

[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]?

They do look similar, but they have different starting sounds. J versus G. Consider how often you will actually see them written together ([name_u]Christmas[/name_u] cards?) and how frequently they will be viewed as part of a sibling set versus individually.
I think if you love the name it would be a shame to rule it out.
