What are your thoughts on these names that, to me, have similar letters/nicknames but are of course entirely different names? Which do you prefer, what vibes do you get from them, and what are your favourite nicknames? Which goes best with my style? For reference, my other favourite girl names are [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Isabel[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], and Matilda; for boys, I’m thinking [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_m]Simon[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_u]Henry[/name_u], or [name_u]Leo[/name_u].
Also, I’ve seen people suggest [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] as a nickname for both [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] and Vivian/Vivienne. Is that pronounced VIV-ee for both Vivienne/Vivian and [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], or does the pronunciation differ depending on which name it is?
Also this may be silly, but I have a beloved (young) dog named [name_u]Juno[/name_u]. Is [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] too close to [name_u]Juno[/name_u] for a future daughter?
TIA, and appreciate all the help lately! Got baby names on the brain as I’m TTC!
Both are lovely, but I prefer [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]! Especially this spelling. It’s in my top three favorite girl names. [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] gives me girly, sparkly vibes, and for some reason reminds me of the color scarlet, while [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] feels more sharp—like mint and larkspur. [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] feels classic and beautiful, reminding me of white lace, violets, flowy dresses, and honey.
Nicknames: For [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], I really love [name_f]Enna[/name_f] and [name_f]Vivi[/name_f], and for [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], I like [name_f]Eve[/name_f] and [name_f]Vivi[/name_f].
With your style, I’d say [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] or the [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] spelling fit best with your other names.
For Vivian/Vivienne is say viv-ee; for [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] I pronounce it vee-vee.
I think it’s totally fine to have a [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] and pet [name_u]Juno[/name_u]! They’re quite different, especially to look at spelling-wise, so to me, that would be 100% okay.
I’m pronouncing [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] the same for both. I think both of them go great with your list and [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] isn’t too close to [name_u]Juno[/name_u]. I’m leaning slightly towards [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] because it feels a tiny bit more unexpected and I love some of the other nickname options for it like [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] and [name_f]Evie[/name_f] but I love both names and you can’t go wrong.
I like [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] when pronounced according to this spelling - ie Vivi-ENNE. I don’t like Vivian/Vivien, it seems masculine, punk and harsh (like razor blades). Unless you can easily insist on [name_u]French[/name_u] pronunciation for [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], I would go for [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]. [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] also has [name_f]Evie[/name_f] as a nn option along with [name_f]Vivi[/name_f], [name_f]Gigi[/name_f], [name_f]Gen[/name_f] etc.
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is lovely - elegant and charming - and [name_f]Vivie[/name_f] works well. I’d pronounce [name_f]Vivie[/name_f] as VIV-ee in both cases, unless you wanted it as vee-vee?
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] and [name_u]Juno[/name_u] are fine too
[name_f]My[/name_f] ranking is [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] > [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] > [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f].
All three names feel mature and elegant. [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] looks gaudier, more flashy, and less energetic than [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]. More of a deep crimson. It reminds me of [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] [name_u]Westwood[/name_u]. Whereas [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] is a no-nonsense navy blue, sprightly, more androgynous. [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is purple, stately, ever so slightly medieval.
I don’t think [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] or [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] need nicknames. I don’t like [name_f]Viv[/name_f] - it’s jarring and abrupt. I can see elegant, worldly [name_f]Vienne[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]. For [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], I most like [name_f]Jenny[/name_f] or [name_f]Evie[/name_f].
I’d instinctually pronounced [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] as VI-vee of it was short for Vivian/enne, and VEE-vee if it was short for [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f].
I really love Genevieve, it’s in my top list. I like it with a French pronunciation and I usually write it Geneviève. In my mind it’s lilacy-blue and very feminine. I also get lace, flowy dresses and soft medieval vibes. So many nickname options as well. I personally don’t lovelove any (I think Viv, Evie, Eve, Vive, Ginny, Gigi, Nieves, Nieve etc are cute, but not my style) But I would want to use Geneviève as a middle anyway and it’s so gorgeous so I would just say it out the way it is without shortening.
Vivienne is also on my list, I think they would make a cool sibset. I also love the French pronunciation with this name. To me it’s more chic, sleek and preppy ‘old money aesthetic’, but same colour pallet as Genevieve. I also like Vivien, to me it’s super feminine. I was so confused to find out that Vivien is unisex. But yes, I do get this confident energy from it. Boss lady vibes, especially from Vivian.
I love [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], personally. I think you might have a problem getting people to pronounce [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] correctly. So, I would choose [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]. [name_u]Juno[/name_u] sounds nothing like [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], so you have no problems there!
