So I am 95% sure I will only have one child. If it is a boy I will name him [name_m]George[/name_m]. I love the name and if I were to have a daughter I would like her nickname to be [name_m]George[/name_m] or [name_u]Georgie[/name_u].
I like the names [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] but I have bad associations with both. My mum has a cousin she hates with a daughter named [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] (my second cousin.) my mum is also VERY critical and I would literally never hear the end of it if I called my own daughter [name_f]Georgia[/name_f].
That leads me to [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] but there was a girl at school who bullied me and she had a friend called [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] and the bully used to say her name in such a silly, sing song voice when I hear the name it’s all I think about…
Should I just give up on either name? I don’t like names like [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] and think they’re really tacky.
My shortlist also contains [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] and [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] with no negative associations- even though they aren’t my favourite names I like them and is it better to go with one of these instead?
I think only you can decide if you can get past the negative association with [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] once the name belongs to your daughter. In your position, I would stay away from [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] as not being worth the trouble, although I imagine your mother would get past the association once she had a [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] of her own.
Only you can decide if the negative associations are deal breakers. I love the [name_m]George[/name_m] names too. I love [name_f]Georgette[/name_f] and that it’s rarely used. [name_f]Georgine[/name_f] is another more unusual option. Personally, even though I like [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] and [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] too, I would prefer any of the [name_m]George[/name_m] names. Can you practise using the name [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] for instance and see if you can get over the associations?
This is a REALLY southern name, but [name_f]Georgette[/name_f]?
In this case I think going with something else on your list might be better since the names have such strong connotations for you. Since you like the names on your list, that would just be easier I think. I know from experience that it’s nearly impossible NOT to associate a name that’s been negative for you in the past with that same person if anyone else with the name comes after.
You could do [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] or [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_u]Georgie[/name_u]/[name_f]Georgina[/name_f]. Well, you could actually just use [name_m]George[/name_m] as the middle name for a daughter, and then you still get to use your favourite name.
I know a girl whose full name is just [name_u]Georgie[/name_u]! If you like it as a nickname, you could always just use it as a first name! I think it’s really really cute.
