We’re thinking about naming our son [name]George[/name]. A middle name starting with “S” would be ideal in order to honor my husband’s grandfather, [name]Sidney[/name].
What do you think of [name]George[/name]?
We’ve thought about [name]George[/name] [name]Samuel[/name], [name]George[/name] [name]Sidney[/name], or [name]George[/name] Segal (which is a family name). I also love [name]George[/name] [name]Arthur[/name], but [name]Arthur[/name] doesn’t start with “S”.
I like [name]George[/name] [name]Samuel[/name] okay. [name]Sidney[/name] is the direct honouring, which could be cool but I don’t like the name in itself, if you know what I mean.
Other S’s I like:
[name]George[/name] [name]Spencer[/name]
[name]George[/name] [name]Sterling[/name]
[name]George[/name] [name]Samson[/name]
[name]George[/name] [name]Stephen[/name]
[name]George[/name] [name]Solomon[/name]
[name]George[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name]
I’m extremely biased, but I love [name]George[/name] [name]Samuel[/name]. However, in your case, I would use [name]George[/name] [name]Sidney[/name]. [name]Sidney[/name] is the most direct way of honoring your son’s great-grandfather, and the name is completely usable.
I really like [name]George[/name]! Mainly because of the connection to [name]George[/name] [name]Harrison[/name] of The Beatles, but some people might not like that… I love it, though. I think it’s underused. [name]George[/name] [name]Samuel[/name] is my favorite!
I like [name]George[/name] [name]Sidney[/name] from your choices, and I love [name]George[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name] from the suggestions from other posters.
I’d say go with [name]Sidney[/name] in the middle, it’s the most direct way of honoring, and it’s a solid and underused gem. [name]Samuel[/name] would work too and is also a nice name, but it seems like such an indirect way to honor someone, but that’s just my own personal naming preference.
As for [name]George[/name], I actually don’t like it at all, it has always had a very funny sound to me (despite it’s historical importance). It’s always had a ‘goofy’ feel to it to me (perhaps partially because the only [name]George[/name] I’ve ever known-in-person was one of the ‘goofiest’ people I’ve ever known, but even without that it still seems a bit ‘goofy’ to my ear.)
