[name]Geraldine[/name] has always seemed so middle aged to me, but I recently reread [name]Lord[/name] Edgeware Dies by [name]Agatha[/name] [name]Christie[/name] where [name]Lord[/name] Edgeware has a daughter named [name]Geraldine[/name], and I’ve really warmed up to it. Her cousin calls her [name]Dina[/name] ([name]DEE[/name]-na), which I thought was a sweet nickname. It has the same sort of charm that [name]Theodora[/name] does, I think.
So…am I crazy? Is [name]Geraldine[/name] too dated, or could it come back?
I’ve warmed to [name]Geraldine[/name] over the years too. It has its own vintage charm which I find appealing. Lately for some unknown reason, I’ve been thinking about a sister trio with the names [name]Claudine[/name], [name]Georgette[/name] and [name]Suzanne[/name] so [name]Geraldine[/name] has the same vibe as those names! I love [name]Agatha[/name] [name]Christie[/name] mysteries. [name]Geraldine[/name] also has a positive association for me. It was the name of one of the funniest woman I’ve ever met who died of cancer way too soon. [name]Geraldine[/name] needs to be taken from the shelf and dusted off so she can shine again!
I like it, but can’t get away from the [name]Gerald[/name] part, which I don’t think sounds pretty at all. That said, it has a strong, vintage sound to it, which I like. I’d only use it as a middle paired with something more feminine, though. (I like my frilly princess names )
It was the name of the character in [name]Beverly[/name] [name]Cleary[/name]'s popular books: [name]Ramona[/name] [name]Geraldine[/name] [name]Quimby[/name].
I like it. My son has a friend named [name]Gerald[/name], and I’ve always found that very charming and unusual. It’s along the same lines. [name]Dina[/name] is cute - I don’t care at all for [name]Geri[/name].
I am a huge fan of [name]Geraldine[/name]. I want the stronger/tougher vintage names to come into style and I think they will. I just can’t get behind [name]Geri[/name]…I think of Strangers with [name]Candy[/name] & Jheri curls…not images I want to connect with any future daughter. I suggest finding a modern nickname [name]Dine[/name] or [name]Gene[/name] are both ok.
I’m really fond of many of the vintage-y feminized names, like [name]Geraldine[/name], [name]Pauline[/name], [name]Colette[/name], [name]Harriet[/name], etc.
I like [name]Geraldine[/name] and think the nn [name]Dina[/name] is darling. I know a [name]Geraldine[/name] just a bit older than I am (she’s already in her 60’s) and she is a wonderful, intelligent and funny woman. We call her [name]Gerri[/name] most of the time.
