Gerda?

What do you think about the name [name_f]Gerda[/name_f]? I found the name from [name_m]Hans[/name_m] [name_u]Christian[/name_u] Anderson’s The [name_u]Snow[/name_u] [name_f]Queen[/name_f] and I really like it but I want to know your opinions!

I’m not a fan. It feels clunky and dated to me. I like [name_f]Gertie[/name_f] though.

I definitely jumped to Girdle and Girth right away. Not a fan of it.

Two close sounding names but beautiful
[name_f]Gilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Golda[/name_f]

I find it a bit harsh but it could grow on me

My first thought was, “I like that name because it’s from The Snow Queen!” Hehe! I think it’s really cute. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: Kind of like Greta, but more unique, and more ancient-fairytale-sounding.

I think the name is very beautiful in Danish where the pronunciation is a little softer. I don’t love how I sound when I say the name in English! I agree with the associations others have made to girdle etc.

A very pretty name! I wish I loved it more in English.
I think Greta is a good alternative!

I think it’s kinda cool! But prefer [name_f]Greta[/name_f] personally

Reminds me a bit too much of Gastroesophageal reflux disease (sp?) which is abbreviated as GERD.

I agree with pps; [name_f]Greta[/name_f] is a great alternative and doesn’t provoke the same impression

I love it! It gives a similar feeling as [name_f]Magda[/name_f], my all-time favourite name

I love [name_f]Gerda[/name_f]. Many will say it is clunky, but if I loved it, I wouldn’t worry about that. Better clunky cool than dead boring.

I think it works as a middle name for sure.

I like it. It was the name of my first [name_f]Barbie[/name_f].

I just hear girdle, I don’t like the sound unfortunately.

I know the name from the fairy tale. It’s intriguing, but I ultimately find it unappealing (especially in my accent- I’m from the [name_u]Southern[/name_u] US).

I can imagine an 80 year danish lady named so… not my cup of tea sorry
