Our baby girl was born in [name_f]April[/name_f], but I wanted to post her name so that she can be counted in your end of year statistics.
After great deliberation and eventual desperation we went with [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] [name_f]Amy[/name_f]. [name_f]Amy[/name_f] was the easy part: named after my best friend and other soulmate. [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] was trickier. We wanted a Swedish name to represent my heritage but, having grown up with a Swedish name that always requires an explanation of pronunciation, I wanted something that Americans can easily figure out. That ruled out our favorite name [name_f]Inga[/name_f] because we (well, “I”) don’t like the typical pronunciation with a hard “g” sound, preferring “Ing-a” (rhymes with sing-a) to “Ing-Ga”. Also, we’d gotten a negative response when test-driving the name with coworkers and friends.
So, after spending the post-partum time in the hospital filling a dry-erase board with name options and soliciting opinions from every person who walked by, we went with [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]. Which in our informal polling was still unpopular, but it seemed to work for us.
And, yes, when all is said and done we do call her [name_f]Inga[/name_f] at home. At least this way she has options.
She’s beautifully named! I love [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] and [name_f]Inga[/name_f] especially. I don’t believe I’ve seen [name_f]Inga[/name_f] spelled that way, but I really like it! My family is Danish, and my cousin is named [name_u]Inge[/name_u], pronounced the same as [name_f]Inga[/name_f] (judging by your description).
Congratulations on the birth of your precious [name_m]Little[/name_m] Girl, and on finding the PERFECT [name_m]WAY[/name_m] to keep both the Name AND Pronunciation you love! An added bonus, in my opinion, is that [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] has a much more lovely meaning! God Bless you and your new Family!
Oh my goodness, SO excited to see you used [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]! I think it’s a knock-out name, and your nickname [name_f]Inga[/name_f] is so gentle and sweet that I can’t say it without smiling. Congratulations on your beautiful baby girl!
LOL! I loved reading your post and I love that you used [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]/[name_f]Inga[/name_f]. It’s not something I would pick, but it’s a solid, lovely name and you’re dead-on with your reasoning. I have a lot of respect for the thought you put into picking her nickname/formal name.
Congratulations!
I’m half-Swedish so I don’t have any problems with [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] or [name_f]Inga[/name_f], but I can see why others would. Sounds like [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] was the perfect choice for you though, and I quite like it.
