I’ve fallen for [name_f]Nettie[/name_f], one of those darling, spunky, sweet vintage nickname names -my other favorites are [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], and [name_f]Millie[/name_f]- but I can’t find a full name for it. I contemplated [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f], but that seems terribly unwearable, at least for now. Maybe far in the future when I’m having kids she’ll make a comeback.
I didn’t get much further than [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f]. [name_f]Athena[/name_f] briefly crossed my mind, but that’s such a stretch it seems absurd. What full names would you recommend, or do you think [name_f]Nettie[/name_f] can stand on her own?
Well it can pretty much be a nickname for anything ending in -ette or -etta. I personally love [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] but here are some I think would work well:
[name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] seems much more wearable than [name_f]Nettie[/name_f]. [name_f]Nettie[/name_f] makes me think of old women in beauty parlors. [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] and [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] are so much cuter! But if you’re determined…[name_f]Annette[/name_f] is the obvious choice.
I think [name_f]Nettie[/name_f] stands beautifully on her own, especially because of the strong ‘t’ sound: in my opinion the ‘t’ sound makes [name_f]Nettie[/name_f] a lot more substantial.
Other options: [name_f]Henriette[/name_f] (I think this is more accessible the [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f], due to its similarity to [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]), [name_f]Nanetta[/name_f], [name_f]Nanetta[/name_f], [name_f]Annette[/name_f], [name_f]Annetta[/name_f], [name_f]Antoinette[/name_f], [name_f]Garnet[/name_f], [name_f]Jeanette[/name_f], [name_f]Lunette[/name_f], [name_f]Lunetta[/name_f], [name_f]Minette[/name_f], [name_f]Ninetta[/name_f], [name_f]Ninette[/name_f], [name_f]Minetta[/name_f], [name_f]Netta[/name_f], [name_f]Netia[/name_f] / [name_f]Nettia[/name_f], [name_f]Oneta[/name_f], [name_f]Venetta[/name_f] / [name_f]Vanetta[/name_f], [name_f]Winslet[/name_f].
Anything that ends in -nette could get you to [name_f]Nettie[/name_f] as a nickname (and I do think [name_f]Nettie[/name_f] makes a better nickname than a full name).
You might be able to use [name_f]Nettie[/name_f] for [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]–it doesn’t quite carry the syllable, but it does have a historical connection to [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f].
Name her [name_f]Nettie[/name_f]. If you love it, that is all that matters. You do not have to have a “full name”. We used [name_f]Nora[/name_f] for our daughter’s name and everyone complained she was not an [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], but I couldn’t imagine her being named anything else at this point.
Well my daughter is called [name_f]Nettie[/name_f] and just [name_f]Nettie[/name_f] so I would definitely say that it can stand on it’s own.
But of you are really against that idea then you can use:
[name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] - I think that it is very wearable and clunky and cool!
[name_f]Annette[/name_f]
[name_f]Antoinette[/name_f]
No one’s yet suggested [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] - although “[name_f]Nattie[/name_f]” would be more phonetically correct, “[name_f]Nettie[/name_f]” could work just fine.
