I like the nickname [name_m]Walt[/name_m]. My wife isn’t keen on the expanded name [name_m]Walter[/name_m] or [name_m]Walton[/name_m]. I think she’d be OK with “[name_m]Walt[/name_m]” if the expanded name was more… something. And she doesn’t want it to be just [name_m]Walt[/name_m].
So, what are your thoughts? [name_m]How[/name_m] do we get to [name_m]Walt[/name_m]? Any unique names that would shorten to [name_m]Walt[/name_m] without much trouble?
Hmm, I don’t know, [name_m]Walter[/name_m] and [name_m]Walton[/name_m] are probably as expanded as it gets. You might have to get more creative like [name_m]Hewlett[/name_m] or something?
I first thought of [name_m]Walden[/name_m], perhaps with a middle name that starts with a T. Regardless, I think the [name_m]Wal[/name_m]- beginning of [name_m]Walden[/name_m] makes [name_m]Walt[/name_m] a reasonable nickname.
You could also do [name_u]Wallace[/name_u] or [name_u]Wallis[/name_u] as well.
Funny enough, most Walters I know don’t like to be called [name_m]Walter[/name_m], and your situation is vice-versa.
Without getting too obscure, what about using a [name_m]Wal[/name_m]- first name and T middle name? For example, [name_m]Walt[/name_m] seems like a logical nickname for [name_u]Walker[/name_u] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] or something like this.
Good luck!
Someone had mentioned to me the idea of [name_m]Oswald[/name_m]. While I don’t like the name, that kind of name would work! [name_m]Walt[/name_m] derives from [name_m]Oswald[/name_m] creatively. Does that help anyone’s creative juices?
On another note, if she’s a girl, we really likes the name [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]. But we wanted a proper name as well. We finally settled (for now at least) on [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] with [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] as her nickname.
Hmmm maybe:
[name_m]Ewald[/name_m]
[name_m]Stonewall[/name_m]
[name_u]Wallace[/name_u] (I love this name)
[name_m]Walsh[/name_m]
[name_m]Walther[/name_m]
You can do a Nameberry search for boys names containing [name_m]Wal[/name_m], there’s some longer, unusual choices. I’m not a huge fan but it might be worth checking them out if you’re really struggling.
I do think [name_m]Walt[/name_m] could be used as a stand alone name if you couldn’t find a long name you like.
I love [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]) great choice.
