I noticed that [name]Gideon[/name] seems to be a well-liked name here on name berry, but I can’t seem to take it seriously. I think it’s partly because of this video with [name]Paul[/name] [name]Rudd[/name] and [name]Jason[/name] Segel: Paul Rudd & Jason Segel - YouTube. They joke about [name]Jason[/name] Segel having an imaginary friend named [name]Gideon[/name] (“who rides a unicorn and visits you in your dreams!”) and continue to crack themselves up saying “[name]Gideon[/name]” in ridiculous voices. Watch especially 1:20-2:40 and 5:50-5:55.
Does anyone else here think [name]Gideon[/name] sounds kind of silly? Like a cartoon character instead of a real person? I think I may be in the minority, but I just don’t see the appeal.
[name]Just[/name] watch the first two seasons of Criminal Minds and you’ll be cured. [name]Mandy[/name] Patinkin plays [name]Jason[/name] [name]Gideon[/name], and is usually called [name]Gideon[/name]. Nothing silly about him at all. Also, [name]Gideon[/name] is an important figure in Judeo-[name]Christian[/name] history.
As for the name itself, I don’t think it sounds silly. To me it sounds solid and wise, like a frontier kind of name, worn by a man who works hard and builds things, a homemade quilt and wood fires kind of name.
I’ve never seen Criminal Minds, and I have no clue at all who [name]Jason[/name] Segel & [name]Paul[/name] [name]Rudd[/name] are, so from the perspective of someone who apparently lives in a pop culture vacuum, I don’t find [name]Gideon[/name] the least bit silly. I think it’s a weighty, somewhat serious sounding name, but one that still comes off as friendly and positive (maybe because of the “giddy” sound). I love it–it’s so handsome.
This is one of those names that I am back and forth about…sometimes I think it sounds solid and wears it’s history well, yet at other times I think it sounds a little flimsy and would potentially be target to teasing. Not much help…sorry.
haha thanks for that
Usually I love [name]Jason[/name] Segel, but that was a bit strange. Like he was on drugs or something.
The name [name]Gideon[/name] just makes me think of the angel [name]Gideon[/name]. Especially from a [name]Christmas[/name] movie from my childhood: [name]One[/name] [name]Magic[/name] [name]Christmas[/name].
It does sound a bit silly, I suppose. Like giddy-up! It isn’t a name that I would ever use though.
