Gil or Gib as nn for Gabriel?

I love the name [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], although my SO thinks it’s too feminine and mother doesn’t like it due to some negative associations (children she has taught). [name_m]Even[/name_m] though it’s very popular, I still love this name, although I’m not fond of [name_m]Gabe[/name_m] as the nickname.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] wondering whether [name_m]Gil[/name_m] or [name_m]Gib[/name_m] sound like feasible nickname options for [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]? thanks

I have a [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] who we call [name_m]Gabe[/name_m]. Honestly I can’t see any other nickname.

I prefer [name_m]Gil[/name_m] to [name_m]Gib[/name_m], but I’m really not a fan of either. What about Rel or [name_m]Riel[/name_m]?

I know a [name_m]Gibson[/name_m] who goes by [name_m]Gib[/name_m], maybe that would interest you?

I only see [name_m]Gabe[/name_m]. Though riel would work too.

I love [name_m]Gil[/name_m]. I grew up next to a little boy named [name_m]Gil[/name_m], and he was spunky, sweet, and now has three kids and designs playgrounds! [name_f]Love[/name_f] him and the name lots! Go with [name_m]Gil[/name_m].

I think you could get away with [name_m]Gil[/name_m]. You could always call him something unrelated to his given name though.

You could use either, but [name_m]Gabe[/name_m] is so much cuter.

I think [name_m]Gil[/name_m] would work better than [name_m]Gib[/name_m]. It sounds like a compacted version of [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], where as [name_m]Gib[/name_m] seems like a bit more of a stretch. I know a little girl named [name_f]Helen[/name_f] called [name_f]Hen[/name_f], [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] called [name_m]Gil[/name_m] seems like the same sort of thing to me :slight_smile:

[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] is a gorgeous choice and I actually think it has a lot of cute nn options.
