Giles

[name_m]Giles[/name_m] has been on and off my list more times than I can count. I love it, but didn’t think it would go well with [name_u]James[/name_u] as a brother. I’ve recently dropped [name_u]James[/name_u] from my list, so [name_m]Giles[/name_m] is working it’s way on my list. I think it goes great with my boys([name_m]Alaric[/name_m], [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Lucian[/name_m] and [name_m]Leopold[/name_m]).

What are your thoughts on [name_m]Giles[/name_m]?

I like it, but Americans wouldn’t always pronounce it correctly. At least, not on the first try.

[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_m]Giles[/name_m] from [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] the Vampire Slayer is one of my absolute favorite fictional characters, so I have to say yes.

I agree with this. It would make a great middle name here, how about [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Giles[/name_m]?

[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_m]Giles[/name_m] from [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] the Vampire Slayer is my immediate association (I’m an American). I like the suggestion of [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Giles[/name_m]. For FN [name_m]Giles[/name_m] is too stuffy and old man-ish for me, sorry!

Thank you everyone! I already have [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] paired with [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] and I’m pretty set on that combination. I also much prefer [name_m]Giles[/name_m] as a first name. If I end up using [name_m]Giles[/name_m] it would be in the first name spot only.

I think [name_m]Giles[/name_m] is adorable. I also make an initial [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_m]Giles[/name_m] connection but [name_f]IMO[/name_f] that only makes the name better! (Coming from someone with two [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] the Vampire Slayer tattoos ;)) I can also see ‘[name_m]Giles[/name_m]’ working on all ages, personally.

What makes you say that? Maybe it’s just my BTVS obsession and the fact that [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_m]Giles[/name_m] was my idol growing up…but I don’t understand why anyone would have a problem pronouncing “[name_m]Giles[/name_m]”…it’s quite a basic pronunciation. To me it’s no more complicated than the name [name_m]Bob[/name_m] Lol

In the US it may have a different image, but here in the UK, this name is seen as quite upper-class. I’ve only ever met one [name_m]Giles[/name_m], and he was a very posh boy who was on his way to his very expensive Grammar school, lol! That said, I still think its usable and I see no pronunciation issues x

I love [name_m]Giles[/name_m], I think it’s a lovely name, a real classic. It’s fairly upper-class, yes, but not in a way that makes it sound ridiculous, unlike some names I could mention (but won’t). It seems to me such a friendly name, somehow.
