Based off my own experiences its pronunciation depends on if [name_f]Gillian[/name_f] is a boy or girl. I’ve heard guys with the hard g, “[name_u]Gill[/name_u]-[name_m]Ian[/name_m]” and then the girls I know pronounce it like “[name_f]Jill[/name_f]-[name_m]Ian[/name_m]”
Hard G for me - like a fish’s gill.
from the midwest US - soft sound like [name_f]Jill[/name_f]. My oldest daugher (7) actually goes to school with a [name_f]Gillian[/name_f]/[name_f]Jillian[/name_f] (not certain on the spelling)
My Mum is a [name_f]Gillian[/name_f] and she has always pronounced it with a soft ‘g’ and as far as I know she’s never had any issues with people saying it wrong. I’m in the UK is that helps!

My mind is blown, I always thought it was the same as [name_f]Jillian[/name_f]. Though come to think of it it rings a bell that some say a hard G in [name_f]England[/name_f].
I’ve always thought it was a soft G, but that’s because I’ve only seen it in writing. I’ve never met a [name_f]Gillian[/name_f]. I’m in the US where [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] is the preferred form.
I say [name_f]Gillian[/name_f] with a hard ‘g’ because the only [name_f]Gillian[/name_f] I know pronounces it that way!
I say [name_f]Gillian[/name_f] with a hard G, [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] with a soft. Only because I used to sing this: 'Gilly Gilly Ossenfeffer Katzenellenbogen by the Sea' - YouTube ([name_u]Gilly[/name_u] [name_u]Gilly[/name_u] Ossenfeffer Katzenellenbogen by the Sea) when I was younger, and [name_u]Gilly[/name_u] is with a hard G.
I’m pretty sure for most regions the general consensus is [name_f]Gillian[/name_f] with a hard ‘g’.
I say it like [name_f]Jill[/name_f]-ian
I instinctively would pronounce it the same as [name_f]Jillian[/name_f], but wouldn’t be surprised if it had a soft G instead.
