Gina too out-dated?

We are a french-american family living in [name_f]France[/name_f] and thinking of using [name_f]Gina[/name_f] for our second daughter, first daughter is [name_f]Stella[/name_f].
[name_f]Gina[/name_f] (pronounced gee-nah, not gin-ah like the alcohol) and as a full name, not [name_f]Regina[/name_f], [name_f]Virginia[/name_f], etc.
I like that it is only two syllables, and I think it sounds okay with [name_f]Stella[/name_f]. My only concerns are the wide popularity differences between the two ([name_f]Stella[/name_f] is top 100 for US, and top 200 for [name_f]France[/name_f], [name_f]Gina[/name_f] isn’t even in top 1000 for US and is in top 800 for [name_f]France[/name_f]), and that [name_f]Gina[/name_f] sounds like a great name – for someone born in the 60’s.
In fact, I have a cousin born 1961 named [name_f]Gina[/name_f], but pronounced [name_f]Gin[/name_f]-ah.
Besides my cousin, we have no other connections to this name.
My husband proposed [name_f]Gina[/name_f] for our first, it was in our top ten, but we finally went with [name_f]Stella[/name_f].
For this baby, I initially preferred [name_f]Regina[/name_f], [name_f]Virginia[/name_f], or [name_f]Angelina[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Gina[/name_f], but husband didn’t like these names. Finally, I think a short name that represents all of these names would be okay for me.
So what are your opinions?

[name_f]Gina[/name_f] is cute. It doesn’t sound too dated to me! It sounds pretty! Another suggestion for full names if you wanted a longer one is the Italian [name_f]Gianna[/name_f].

In my opinion, [name_f]Gina[/name_f] is a little outdated, but I do think it would be a cute nickname for something… I think [name_f]Gianna[/name_f] is beautiful, and [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] or [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] would also work. If you spelled the name “[name_f]Jena[/name_f]”, I think it’d look a lot more modern and would be better at standing alone - it could also work for [name_f]Jeanetta[/name_f] or [name_f]Janine[/name_f].

[name_f]Gina[/name_f] does sound outdated to me, to be honest. Sorry!

I quite like it, ideal short for something like [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] but I don’t think it’s bad as a name on its own

I adore [name_f]Gina[/name_f]! It’s simple yet cute and it will suit your little girl throughout her lifetime, no matter her personality. I also think it works well for you because it represents all the names you love in one.

I think [name_f]Gina[/name_f] is beautiful! [name_f]Gina[/name_f] is such a pretty name!

[name_f]Gina[/name_f] is definitely not outdated! Look at [name_f]Geena[/name_f] [name_m]Davis[/name_m]. Beautiful and talented actress! I would love to see more girls named [name_f]Gina[/name_f].

It does sound a little dated, but I think it’s almost so dated that it’s okay now? I don’t know if that makes any sense. It’s kind of like if you suggested [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] or [name_f]Amber[/name_f] I’d say it’s really too dated, but [name_f]Gina[/name_f] is sort of along with names like [name_f]Susan[/name_f] or [name_f]Edith[/name_f] which are on the cusp of being cool again. I think you’d be a little ahead of the game, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. Sorry if that made no sense.

[name_f]Gina[/name_f] doesn’t sound outdated to me. I am younger, but when I saw the title of this thread I honestly thought “dated? to what period?”

I’m gonna have to almost completely agree with @jlstrk’s entire post, haha. The only thing is that I don’t personally think of [name_f]Gina[/name_f] as dated, I think it’s a pretty cute and usable name.

I love these longer name suggestions, though (save for [name_f]Georgina[/name_f], it’s just nms) especially [name_f]Gianna[/name_f] and [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]! I’m a big sucker for the two or ten for one deals that come from using a longer name.

The different spelling of [name_f]Jena[/name_f] is also a good suggestion, it just might get mispronounced as [name_f]Jenna[/name_f] a lot.

I find it very dated. I know a [name_f]Gina[/name_f] who is my age and I’ve always thought that her whole family sounds like it’s from the 60s (her siblings are [name_u]Gary[/name_u] and [name_f]Donna[/name_f]). I think [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] and [name_f]Gianna[/name_f] are very pretty though.

The only [name_f]Jena[/name_f] I know says it [name_f]Jenna[/name_f] so I don’t lik that idea.

Personally, I really like [name_f]Gina[/name_f]. I does feel a little dated, but for me that doesn’t detract that much from the name itself-it just makes it seem quite cute in a retro-y vintage-y kind of way.

I would use a longer form and have [name_f]Gina[/name_f] as a nickname, but if you really don’t like that option, I think it works fine as a stand alone name as well, it’s just my personal preference to have slightly longer names. [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] and [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] are great suggestions.

As for going with [name_f]Stella[/name_f], I wouldn’t worry so much about the popularity as although [name_f]Stella[/name_f] is top 100, it still really isn’t so common. I work with children and I’ve yet to actually meet a [name_f]Stella[/name_f]. I would only worry about the popularity difference if you had used a super popular name. (think [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_f]Ava[/name_f] etc…)

Overall, I think that [name_f]Gina[/name_f] is a great name. Good luck with your decisions

I also think [name_f]Gina[/name_f] is dated but I love all your choices for a longer name! [name_f]Angelina[/name_f] especially and pp suggestion of [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]. [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] would be lovely with [name_f]Stella[/name_f] too!

Yes, it’s a bit outdated, but I have been seeing names from that era recently. If you don’t mind, then go for it.

I do think [name_f]Gina[/name_f] is a bit dated, but I’m also not a fan personally. I like the suggestion of using it as a nickname. There’s also the similar [name_f]Gia[/name_f].

I like the name and I don’t see it as out-dated. I’ve personally known just one [name_f]Gina[/name_f] and she’s only in her 20s. Also, my main association with the name right now is the actress [name_f]Gina[/name_f] [name_m]Rodriguez[/name_m], who’s only 32 and has a fun, youthful vibe. So I don’t see it as a 60s name and I doubt her peer group will either.

[name_f]Gina[/name_f] is one of my favourite G names. I really like it! Also sounds really good with [name_f]Stella[/name_f].

I think it is cute. It may be a little outdated, but in a good way
